Race Report - Retro Kart Championship - Shennington

A busy weekend in only our 2nd meeting of the year due to exams (now completed!) Was great to see everyone again always a friendly and fun paddock 👍🍻

Saturday

We had to run in our race engine but had issues with carbs losing 2 sesions as a result. Finally managed to get everything running so I could work on set up and lines as never raced here before just demo sessions a few years ago. Also getting my head round racing on the softer Maxxis tyres for the 1st time in 2 years since

Heat 1 P19 - P13

With only 1 quick practice sesion under our belts it was straight into the 1st heat on Saturday afternoon. A mediocre start saw me drop a few places but managed to finish just outside the top 10 after a few decent overtakes into the chicane.

Sunday

Heat 2 P4 - P4

After a long wait whilst the other classes had their 1st heats we had a decent race and held 3rd place untill the last corner after running a tad wide and being piped by last years runner up in the series. 👍Enjoyed that one

Heat 3 P24 - P15

This was a tough one starting near the back of the pack, made a good start and made lots of places but got held up in the middle of the pack and ran out of laps to progress any further. 😕

Final P6 - P6

Happy with a P6 start but lost out again in the 1st few corners and dropped to 9th (unlike me 🤔) This was a mega quick race with plenty of action up front. A few retirements early on put us upto 7th. After a coming together with karts infront into the bottom hairpin, I managed to avoid them but hit another kart in the process lifting the front up high! Managed to keep going but had to deal with massive understeer for the last couple of laps. 😬

Crossed the line 6th out of 30 so happy with our day, mixing it with the regular racers of the series and all the usual quick boys and girls

Massive thanks to Dad Shaun 'Show' Taylor as usual especially getting everything sorted and ready despite the recent hurdles in the way! Huge thanks to Luke Padley for Lukerprise Van hire 😄 and TravelLuke hotel plus spanner support all weekend. And also to DPRD for engine and chassis support as always. 👍Great to have friend and rapid karter Lucas Blanford with us for the weekend as well.

Thanks to everyone at Retro Kart Championship for all your hard work.

Not sure when we are back out again, funds depending unfortunately but watch this space 👍🏁

Been a while since we've said this but it's race weekend!! Round 1 of the Access Karting series at our favorite track. Only our 3rd ever senior race in 90s TKM karts. Not doing a full season due to GCSE's so hoping for a good result. Very good day testing so fingers crossed. Helping out with Little Brother Austin as well today with a well deserved 3rd👍🏁🏆

Race report from Round 5 of the Access Karting UK series.

Saturday practice went well finishing all sessions whislt working on set up changes.
Sunday was also dry all day which is rare haha 7th in practice was a good start with 24 100UK seniors to play with 👍

Heat 1 P2 - P7 Made a good start and got into the lead on lap 1 but the quick boys soon bumped me down the order as struggled with front end. 0.6 off fastest lap

Heat 2 P11 - P9 another good start but again was struggling with understeer so couldn't match the guys in front but still just half a second off fastest lap despite cracking the chassis in the process 😬

Heat 3 P18 - DNF 😡

Chassis welded up! Race was red flagged a few laps in. Everyone was ok so made another good start making up 6 places on the restart only to get a front puncture ending the race booooo.

Final P11 -P9

Made my customary good start but was unable to get further up the grid but had race long battles with the majority of the quick and well respected seniors. Again, roughly half a second off fastest lap but back in the pits the welded up chassis had well and truly given up!! See pics. 😫

Frustrating not to challenging further up the front of the grid but happy with my driving and race craft this weekend. My kart is already back at DPRD getting sorted for the final round in a few weeks. 👍🔨🛠🪚

Massive thanks to Dad for all his hard work and Luke Padley when he finally arrived on Saturday 😅 Also thanks to Mum, Nanny and Papa for coming along to support me and little brother Austin who did well. Also thanks to Matt and Daren for paddock support/banter and DPRD for chassis and engine prep as always

Lastly thanks to James x 2 and all at accesskarting-uk.com for this fantastic series to race in! 🏎🏁🏆

Our last meeting of the year will be live on YouTube so we are making plans that should see us nearer the front haha. Details to follow

A good days testing for round 5 of Access Karting UK championship. Still chasing the ultimate set up but should be in the mix at the front of the seniors once again. Little Brother Austin also had a good day in his cadet kart. Not bad considering both of us have not raced since June. Roll on race day tomorrow. 👍🏎🏁

Hello! It's been a while since we said this.....but it's race weekend!! Round 5 of the Access Karting UK series and only our 3rd senior meeting. Need to blow some serious cobwebs away after not racing for 2 and a half months. Fingers and toes crossed for a good weekend 👍🏁🏁🏁🏆🏎

Good luck to all the 100uk competitors at this years O-plate meeting at Rowrah and to all racing at Lydd for the inaugur...

Unfortunately unable to attend either/or but this is what this private 'Dad N Lad' karting team technically calls it the budget saving weekend haha 😉

Race Report - Retro Racer E-Plate Clay Pigeon.

For only our 2nd ever senior TKM meeting we headed to our local track (still 2 hours away) for our 1st senior meeting with the retro kart crew. Saturday practice went well after finishing running in our race engine. 👍

Sunday morning practice also went well after some big set up changes with a top 5 (out of 20 entered) With this being a non championship round a different format was used for the day.

Qualifying - P10 only 6-tenths off the pole time but disappointed to be 10th as the kart didn't feel as good as practice and this stuck us right in the middle for the 2 heats.😔

Heat 1 P10 - DNF made a good start but had to avoid a spinner at the hairpin on lap 1 which lost me loads of places, was moving up the order but got a front left puncture whilst attempting a pass so had to retire. Not a great start! 😭

Heat 2 P10 - DNF with the reverse grid this was always going to be a tough race especially with all the quick boys behind. Again made a good start but had contact in the chicane whilst fighting for 5th place which put us out again! 😡

Final P20 - P4 with 2 DNF's in the heats we started dead last for the final. A false start caused a few quick boys to retire ealry on and once underway there were lots of people out of position. (should have been a red flag and restart in fairness) We managed to avoid any issues and make our way thorough the field whislt others had their turns for some misfortunes. 🔧

We were sitting in 4th with a few laps to go but despite our best efforts couldn't get past last years 100Uk champion Ben Clucas who despite having some issues was carrying out some superb defensive driving to maintain 3rd with us just under a tenth behind across the line 🏁 👍

Very happy with 4th in only my 2nd senior final although we did take full advantage of others having many different issues in fairness. Still, to finish 1st (or 4th) you first have to finish....

Thanks to Dad as always who was constantly doing small or major set up changes back in the pits. Thanks to Matt Scott for loan parts once again haha and Darren for a fast race motor. Also Grandad for coming to help out Sunday and Luke for providing accommodation, support and banter 😀 🍻

Not sure when we are out next....all depends on how i get on with mock exams and revision ahead of GCSE's starting in September. 😔
