What a day for The Mallard! 💙🖤

The morning started with our trip to Kinsley Boys. With the manager unavailable, the lads were led by Harvey, Ben and Robbie—and they stepped up brilliantly.

Coming into the game sitting 4th, three points behind Rawcliff and Edlington, we knew exactly what was needed. Rawcliff had already finished their season, while Edlington still had one game left. If we wanted 2nd place and promotion, it was simple: we had to win—and hope Edlington slipped up. The pressure was well and truly on.

From the first whistle, The Mallard were sharp and on the front foot, creating chances early on. The breakthrough came from Carl Lunn, who made it 1-0. Kinsley responded to level at 1-1, but the lads didn’t let that shake them. Carl Lunn struck again soon after to restore the lead at 2-1, and not long later Carl Norman added a third to make it 3-1.

However, a couple of sloppy moments allowed Kinsley back into the game, pulling it to 3-2 before a superb free kick right on half-time saw it level at 3-3.

The second half was a different story. Determined and focused, the lads came out firing. Danny Squires reacted quickest on the line to make it 4-3, followed by Carl Norman grabbing his second of the day to extend the lead to 5-3. Then, with seconds remaining, Kian Ford sealed the result with a goal on the line—6-3!

With the job done, all eyes turned elsewhere. A quick call to the Yorkshire Grey manager confirmed the news we were hoping for—they had beaten Edlington 4-3.

That result meant it was official: The Mallard have secured promotion and finished 2nd! 🎉

An incredible achievement and a performance that showed exactly what this team is about.

The celebrations continued into the afternoon with presentation—and what a fantastic day and night it turned out to be. More to come on that later this week… 👀

That’s it for the 25/26 season, and what a season it’s been!

A massive thank you goes to The Mallard Pub—especially Louise and Harold—for putting on food every week for the lads and their families. Your support doesn’t go unnoticed. Also, a big thanks to all the staff working behind the bar every Sunday.

Another huge shoutout to our sponsors Inspire. We truly appreciate your backing this season and can’t wait to continue the partnership into next year. Thank you!

Until then, we’ll see you all in pre-season… 💙🖤

Mallard Dominate in 5–1 Victory against Pilkingtons

Mallard came flying out of the blocks, setting the tempo early and putting the opposition under immediate pressure. The return of Liam Rogers to the starting XI paid dividends almost instantly. Within five minutes, he found space and slotted the ball goalward—striking the post—but the referee, well positioned, judged it had crossed the line. 1–0 to Mallard and a perfect start.

Just ten minutes later, Liam was at it again. Latching onto another opportunity, he showed great composure to d**k the ball over the onrushing keeper, doubling the lead and underlining Mallard’s early dominance at 2–0.

Mallard continued to control proceedings and nearly added a third just before halftime. A well-worked corner routine saw the ball headed down and played across the box, where Coist made a brilliant run from centre-back to finish clinically—only for celebrations to be cut short by an offside flag.

The second half picked up where the first left off, with Mallard still firmly on top. Josh Marsden, despite working tirelessly and getting into good positions, initially struggled to convert his chances. However, the breakthrough continued elsewhere. Dom produced a moment of skill to glide into the box, round the keeper, and was brought down—penalty to Mallard. Stepping up confidently, Dom slotted home to make it 3–0.

Mallard’s attacking pressure didn’t relent. Wassim threaded a superb ball through to Josh, who this time made no mistake, delicately d**king it into the far post to cap off a much-deserved goal and extend the lead to 4–0.

Pilkingtons managed a consolation when a wide cross caused confusion at the back. Despite Milo calling for it, a cruel bounce led to the ball sneaking through, making it 4–1.

Any hopes of a comeback were quickly shut down. Joe Lynskey delivered a superb ball from near the halfway line into the box, where Wassim showed excellent control before calmly placing it past the keeper to seal the game at 5–1.

A commanding performance from Mallard from start to finish, combining attacking flair with defensive resilience.

Goalscorers:

* Liam Rogers x2
* Dom x1
* Josh Marsden x1
* Wassim x1

Man of the Match:
Arron Rhodes – A rock at the back, delivering a performance full of defensive brilliance to anchor the team’s success.

Match Report: AFC Mallard 4–2 Edlington FC

AFC Mallard delivered a statement performance in a highly anticipated clash against Edlington FC, putting any doubts to rest with a commanding 4–2 victory. After previously beating Edlington 5–1 on the pitch—only for it to be overturned due to an ineligible player—the Mallard boys came into this fixture determined to prove their superiority where it matters most: on the field.

Mallard set up in a 4-5-1 formation, a system that has appeared at times this season but hasn’t always produced results due to isolation up top. This time, however, it worked perfectly.

From the opening whistle, Mallard dominated the midfield battle, cutting off Edlington’s passing lanes and forcing them into hopeful long balls. The pressure paid off when Oggy won a crucial tackle on the edge of the box and fed Tom Burley, who showed great composure to turn and fire home, giving Mallard a deserved 1–0 lead.

Edlington briefly threatened and appealed for a penalty after a collision with the goalkeeper, but nothing was given. Mallard stayed focused and soon doubled their lead. Captain Josh Marsden, ending his recent goal drought, found the net to make it 2–0—rewarding his all-around contributions in recent matches.

The first half ended with Mallard firmly in control at 2–0.

The second half started just as strongly. Joe Lynskey extended the lead to 3–0, capping off an energetic performance on the right-hand side. Shortly after, Oggy added a fourth goal, putting Mallard in complete command at 4–0.

With the game seemingly wrapped up, the manager made changes on the left side to rotate the squad. Edlington capitalised on a long ball over the top, with their striker rounding the keeper. Despite Kian’s best efforts to recover, the ball found the net to make it 4–1.

A defensive mix-up soon after led to Edlington winning a penalty, which they converted to bring the score to 4–2. However, the comeback attempt came too late, and Mallard saw out the match comfortably.

The final whistle confirmed a deserved 4–2 victory for AFC Mallard, lifting them into 3rd place in the table, while Edlington dropped to 4th. With Edlington also losing their game in hand against Innings, the result capped off a perfect weekend for Mallard.

Man of the Match: Leyton Beck - solid defensive performance, winning the duals he went for. Was like a brick wall.

With three games of the season left, I leave you with this.

DON’T YOU KNOW PUMP IT UP!!….

Match Preview (AFC Mallard)

AFC Mallard face a tricky away trip to Edlington FC at Edlington Recreation Ground.

Mallard will look to stay disciplined, control midfield, and take chances when they come. Edlington’s home advantage makes this a tough test, but a solid, organized performance could see Mallard come away with a positive result.

Match Report: AFC Innings 1–3 AFC Mallard

AFC Mallard came into the game with an unusual lineup, as regular goalkeeper Milo swapped positions to play up front, while Liam—unable to run but still determined to be involved—bravely took his place between the sticks.

The game got off to a shaky start for Mallard. Not long after kick-off, AFC Innings took the lead from a corner, with Mallard caught ball-watching and failing to pick up their men. It was a frustrating moment that set the tone early on. The difficult weather conditions, with strong wind and driving rain, made it a scrappy contest. Play became a constant battle of territory, with Mallard clearing the ball uphill only for Innings to send it straight back down toward Liam’s goal.

Despite the early setback, Mallard grew into the game. Just before half-time, a moment of individual brilliance changed everything. Joe Lynskey danced past three defenders with quick feet and composure before sliding a perfect pass across the box to Milo. What followed was slightly comical but just as effective—Milo’s shot with his left rebounded off his right foot and trickled into the net, leaving both teams unsure exactly how it had gone in. Nevertheless, it counted, and Mallard went into the break level at 1–1 with momentum on their side.

With the slope now in their favour in the second half, Mallard looked more confident and began to apply real pressure. Their persistence paid off around 20 minutes in, when Joe once again made his mark on the game. His dangerous delivery into the box caused chaos, and the opposition goalkeeper could only parry the ball into his own net under pressure, giving Mallard a deserved lead.

From there, Mallard showed resilience and determination, battling both the opposition and the conditions. The third goal came as a reward for their effort, with Carl Norman reacting quickest after a rebound and calmly slotting the ball into the back of the net to seal the victory.

Overall, it was a strong team performance after a difficult start. The players adapted well to both the unusual lineup and the challenging weather, showing great character to turn the game around. Special credit goes to Liam for stepping up in goal despite his limitations, and to Joe Lynskey, whose creativity and drive were at the heart of everything positive going forward.

Final Score: AFC Innings 1–3 AFC Mallard

Man of the Match: Joe Lynskey dangerous in the midfield all game

• Milo (1)

FULL TIME: AFC Mallard 3–2 Hensall ⚽️

A big win for the Mallard today in what turned out to be a hard-fought game!

With the manager running late, it was down to Harvey and Robbie to step up and deliver the pre-match instructions — passed on to Harvey an hour before kick-off when the team sheet was dropped off. Credit to both for stepping in and getting the lads ready.

The Mallard started a bit sluggish compared to last week and found themselves under pressure early on. Hensall took advantage and went 1–0 up around the 30-minute mark. Things got even tougher shortly after when our goalkeeper was sent to the sin bin for 10 minutes. That meant Arron Rhodes was brought on for Carl Norman, who was nursing an injury.

Arron stepped up massively, getting himself in goal and immediately making an impact — coming out for a corner and making himself big to punch it clear. With the wind in their favour, Hensall kept trying the route one approach, but time and time again it was dealt with brilliantly by Coist and Leyton, winning everything in the air.

Just before half time Carl lunn, picked the ball up at the halfway line saw one defender, sent him to the shop, he saw the second one and thought he’d send him on holiday. The ball took a bobble and after noticing the keeper of his line he’s d**ked him from about 25 yards out. Puskas award worthy! You’d of thought we had Darwin Nunez on the bench, with Carl Norman who came off with a leg injury when sprinting across the pitch to celebrate with Carl. This just shows how big of a game and how much was at stake in this game.

Half time came at 1–1, and with Aiden arriving, he gave the lads a much-needed boost with some words of encouragement — exactly what was needed.

The second half started with real intent. Pressure was on straight from the whistle, with Tom Burley working tirelessly in midfield — not quite Man of the Match, but definitely deserving a special mention for his effort and work rate.

From a corner, Arron Rhodes — now back outfield with Milo returning in goal — made his presence known again, getting into the box and finding the net to make it 2–1 to AFC Mallard.

With the wind now on our side, Mallard kept pushing and didn’t let Hensall settle. A great cross in from Reece was controlled calmly and finished well by Liam Rogers to make it 3–1.

Hensall did manage to pull one back shortly after, but they never really showed enough quality to trouble us further, and the game finished 3–2 to AFC Mallard.

A big game for both teams, and a solid performance to come away with the win! đź’Ş

🌟 Man of the Match: Arron Rhodes — stepping in wherever needed, solid in goal, and getting himself on the scoresheet. Outstanding performance!
