🎬 Tea towels are out

A full Laban technique intensive study workshop is taking place today for actors wishing to add a technique to their tool kit and explore digging deeper.

It may not be a surprise to hear that research consistently shows that feeling a sense of belonging isn't just good for wellbeing but it also improves confidence, motivation, resilience and performance.

The Education Endowment Foundation highlights that positive relationships and feeling seen, understood and safe are fundamental to engagement and learning.

A comprehensive review by researchers at Goldsmiths, University of London also found that a strong sense of belonging is associated with higher self-esteem, greater motivation, better outcomes and improved wellbeing.

That's why, at Truth in Action, we don't just teach screen acting. We create an environment where actors feel supported, challenged and part of something. Because when people feel they belong, confidence has room to grow.

Are you craving for more depth in your screen work?

LABAN INTENSIVE WORKSHOP – SATURDAY 11 JULY

DONCASTER, Holiday Inn, Warmsworth

Laban technique explores the relationship between movement, intention and psychology. At the heart of the work are eight fundamental Efforts, each representing a different quality of energy and action. By exploring these physical dynamics, actors can discover new dimensions within a character and unlock behaviours that may not emerge through text analysis alone.

In this intensive workshop, we will explore how these Efforts can influence character, relationships, status, objectives and emotional life on screen. Rather than "playing emotions", actors are encouraged to work through physical action and energy, allowing authentic responses to emerge organically.

As a working screen actress, I regularly return to Laban in my own practice. I find the exploration of energy particularly valuable when approaching scenes that require additional depth, clarity or specificity. Sometimes a scene simply needs another way in, and working physically through Laban can reveal unexpected choices.

If nothing else, it's an option for the tool kit 🎬

Whether you are new to Laban or looking to deepen your existing practice, this workshop offers an opportunity to challenge yourself, expand your toolkit, and discover how movement and energy can translate for screen

What a day ❤️

Creatively refuelled.

Thank you to Clive Russell for such a generous and insightful workshop for my screen acting students Truth in action

I worked with Clive earlier in the year, and I thank him for trusting me as an actress and trusting and supporting Truth in Action as a screen training provider.

Days like this remind me why I fell in love with acting.

The students really impressed Clive with their ability to be present, truthful, and in the moment 👏

🎬 Why write create our own scenes?

From time to time it makes for a very useful exercise..

This week at Truth In Action, students stepped behind the page and created their own scenes.

As actors, it's easy to focus solely on performance, but writing gives us a deeper understanding of story, character, subtext, stakes, and emotional shifts. By creating our own material from time to time, we begin to see how scenes are built from the inside out.

This exercise isn't about becoming screenwriters. It's about strengthening our instincts as actors, developing creativity, and learning how to recognise the moments that make scenes compelling and truthful.

We explored:
• Character relationships and dynamics
• Gear shifts and emotional turns
• Stakes and objectives
• Subtext and intention
• Story structure and scene progression
• Using imagination to create authentic situations

The more we understand how a scene is constructed, the more freedom and confidence we have when bringing it to life.

It was a useful exercise and the students enjoyed the challenge.

Their efforts were outstanding ✨️
