2 Games to report on this week:

The firsts were at home Vs Horspath 4s, where a lost toss put Harwell into bat. Forrest and Stevens started excellently, putting on 127 runs before Tom was run out. Graham continued to bat well, and nearly carried his bat (getting out on them penultimate ball!) for 128 runs. With Horspath needing 236, an efficient bowling performance saw them all bowled out for 142 in 40 overs.

The second team were away at top of the league Gaerse Dun in Garsington. Having been put into bat, some good defensive work from the openers, and again from Matt Davies who finished on 46 not out, meant that Harwell could creep up to 149 off 40 overs. Another impressive bowling and fielding display left Gaerse Dun slightly behind the rate for most of the game and losing regular wickets. In a tense finish Matt Davies bowled the penultimate over, with 9 required or two wickets, and took two wickets in two balls to win the game!

3 games to report on this week!

The firsts went away to Abingdon, who had put out a very strong side this week. Abingdon raced to 212 off 30 overs against a HICC team who lost two players to injury during the innings. Ian Ross and a Goose stepped up to fill the gap, and regular wickets (4 for Toby) meant that Abingdon were all out for 212. The chase was always going to be hard against a sharp bowling line-up, and despite their best efforts to disguise the Goose as Timms, Harwell could only muster 9 fit batters for the second innings and fell well short.

The twos at home had a much better time against Stanton Harcourt. Some sharp fielding (7 catches, no drops!) helped HICC bowl out SH for 120 runs off 34 overs. The chase proved to be quite entertaining with Harwell at 33 for 3 off the first 5 overs! Syed (41 and Adam 34) helped settle things, but both got out with only 9 runs needed. Despite the the tight finish Sushanta saw us home with nice "slip drive" for 4!

Sunday we were at home to Aldworth, who turned up without a ball an hour late (well two of them did). Captain Jamie won the toss and chose to bat, then stuck to his guns and made Aldworth wait rather than swapping. So the moral victory was won. Unfortunately the batting didn't go that well with Harwell finishing on 81 all out and Boag left stranded only 45 runs from his 50. Good bowling from Ben (4-15 off 6 overs) and Chamal (1-17 off 4) kept things interesting, but Aldworth eventually knocked the runs off in the 16th over. Despite the loss on the pitch, its the moral victory that counts!

5 games to report on this week!

Tuesday saw the visit of the Old Merchant Taylors touring side for a 30 Over game. Skipper Joey B on the toss and chose to bat, much to the dismay of the OMT opening bowler who was recovering from his liquid lunch at the Bell inn Aldworth! A strong batting performance saw 3 HICC batsmen (Jay Mumtaz, Jamie and Shorten) retire at 30 on the way to 212 runs. A spirited chase fell well short and Harwell won by 64 runs, Jamie's 3-8 off 3 overs was the highlight of the bowling.

Wednesday was a friendly against Far from the MCC. Batting first Harwell again saw two batters (Raunakk and Sooraj) retire at 30 as Harwell set a total of 164 for 3. An all round bowling performance (with 9 bowlers!) left FFTMCC a bit slow in the chase and HICC came out on top winning by 35 runs.

Saturday was the Golden Sparrows Double Header. The firsts away at Hanney muscled their way to 160 all out in 42 overs, with 30's from Raunakk and Graham. Strong bowling from Ethin (4-25) and Shorten (4-37) meant that the Sparrows were out for 156 in the 38th Over, Harwell win! The seconds bowled first in their game and some suspect fielding and harsh wides allowed Sparrows to get 204 for 8 before declaring at 40 overs. A spirited 74 from Joey B and commanding 34 from Chamal led to a close finish, but alas Harwell only managed 197 for the losing draw in their 40 overs.

Sunday was away to the quaint village of Greys Green, a notoriously small pitch! Raunakk (49), Jay Mumtaz (43) and Josh (41*) all batted well to get Harwell to 196. The bowling proved to bit slightly more difficult, mainly due to K Lala who score 112 off 95 balls to clinch victory for the Green in the 28th Over.

Lots of cricket to report on this week, half of it against Didcot! Wednesday saw the last game of the Downs League season Vs Didcot, with the top spot on the line. Didcot were unfortunately too strong and set a total of 193 for 6 off 20 overs. The chase proved difficult with regular wickets, but a late resurgence from Graham and Ethin helped us to 126 off 20 overs, just a few short!

On Friday night we hosted Arcadian Casuals a friendly touring side, who were as much there for the pizza and beer as the cricket! On a scorching hot evening Casuals batted first and set a low total of 109. Harwell looked good for the chase, with some great batting from Sooraj (37) but regular wickets meant that we fell slightly short at 102 for 8. Great game against great guys though!

Saturday was another blazing hot day. The 1s were away at Didcot, where having lost the toss Harwell were made to bowl. Another bloody 5fer for Max and 3 from Raunakk were not enough to bowl out Didcot who were 209 for 9 off 47 overs. The Harwell openers started slow, but late acceleration, particularly from Graham (59) meant that Harwell just got 194 off 43 overs, which was enough for a winning draw!

The 2s were playing Marcham 2s at home. Winning the toss the skipper decided to bowl first with the objective of bowling Marcham out quickly. It didn't quite go to plan, despite some tight bowling and 3 wickets for Boag Marcham crept to 131 for 6 off 41 Overs. Harwell chased the total down for 3 wickets after 33 overs, thanks mainly to a monumental 2 hour batting session from Tom Forrest (38) and an excellent 58* from Joey Braham.

Sunday was our third game against Didcot in a week, and another bloomin hot day. batting first, Raunakk (57) and Graham (31) helped Harwell get to 138 off 35 overs. Alas the Didcot batsman proved to be too strong and they knocked the runs off in 24 overs. The bowling highlight was from William, who went for only 11 runs from his 5 overs.

3 victories for HICC this week!

The midweek team started with a dominating win over Donnington in the Downs league. Raunakk starred with the bat, scoring a magnificent 77 (before getting bbq'd by Uday) helping HICC to 171 for 5. A great team bowling performance meant that Donnington were restricted to only 119 from 20 overs. This leaves HICC top of the table with only one match remaining!

There were also wins for both Saturday sides, who have reached the halfway point of the season.

The 1st team beat Clifton Hampden on a crumbly pitch. A well earned 159 off 42 Overs, including 52 not out from skipper Toby proved to be a difficult target. The Harwell attack, lead by 6 wickets from Max, demolished the opposition, getting them all out for 105 off 26.1 overs.

The second team faced Didcot at home. Great bowling from the Joes (Southorn and Braham) who got 4 wickets a piece (and a run out for Joe S) meant that HICC bowled Didcot out for 170. Despite beginning the chase well, and a 54 from Eccleston, Harwell were reduced to 117 for 7 with many overs to go. Cue the heroics from skipper Boag (2*) who successfully blocked and left everything that Didcot could throw at him, whilst allowing Joe S (52*) to knock off the winning runs!

2 wins, a winning draw and a tie from the four fixtures this week! The Wednesday team held on against Chilton Foliat in a tempestuous game to win by 4 runs.

Saturday First XI beat Bledlow ridge by 82 runs. A strong all round batting performance with a 50 for Max, was backed up by an equally strong bowling performance, including a 6fer for Max! The seconds got a winning draw against E&W Hendred, setting 215 after batting first they were unable to bowl out the opposition in 39 overs. The game was utterly dominated though by a fantastic 114* from Matt Davies!

Sunday saw a visit from old boy Ramesh R and his Hampstead Norreys team. After a difficult innings in the baking heat HICC were set a target of 220 to win from 35 overs. Some great batting (80 from J Ross) and lots of dropped catches later and Harwell reach 219, so match tied!

25/06/2025

A great week for Harwell this week. Wednesday saw a win at home Vs The Pirates. Despite James Warrens pedestrian 1 from 16, HICC managed to chase down 160 in 19.2 overs. Thankfully there were overthrows and other Batsman.

The Saturday firsts forced the youngsters of Horspath to concede, they had probably heard about Max's danger bowling. This was instead on show for the twos, who bowled out Gaerse Dun for 60, having set the low total of 116 for 7. Matt Davies dogged 39 not out was the highlight of the batting. Joey B (3) and Boagy (2), Max (2) and new boy Joe S (3) ensured that the wickets finished at 5 - 5 for the NZ Vs UK battle.

Sunday saw a massively exciting finish as Harwell beat Swinbrook CC by one run in the Steve Dixon memorial cup. Apparently Ethin took an awesome catch to win it! Bring on the Semi Finals!

The Wednesday team beat Didcot at Blewbury. Hitting 147 for 7 in their 20 overs (45 for skipper Max) they restricted Didcot to 125 for 7 off their 20.

On a rain affected Saturday the ones managed to beat Steventon, scoring 146 for 6 off 33 overs. Steventon, needing 103 from 20 overs could only get to 78 for 5, with four of those wickets going to Toby! The twos were unable to complete their game, despite a 114 opening run partnership (Forrest 42, Sooraj 55) they only managed to bowl 18 of the minimum 20 overs before rain set in.

The Sunday team finished second. Ewelme batting first set 190, but the HICC batting for the chase wasn't consistent enough and only Jamie (55), Dan (14) and Jayesh (22) troubled the scorers and HICC fell well short of the total.

03/06/2025

A nail biting finish for the Wednesday team this week, who finished 5 runs short of Donnington. The game very much being very much dominated by Rakesh Shah, who took 4 wickets, including a hat trick, and scored 62 runs. As a bowler I am not at all jealous!

Despite a run fest (242!), including a 71 for Graham and 76 for Raunakk, the Saturday ones lost with only 1.1 overs to go. Fantastic effort guys! The twos won against Abingdon 4's, Batting first and setting a total of 173, partly due to a destructive 41 off 14 balls for Jay Manwani, some good bowling restricted the Vale to 93 all out. The skipper had the best figures by scalping 4 under 13's for 9 runs!

Sunday was another run fest! Playing old favourites Far From the MCC, Harwell set a target of 228 from 35 overs, with 50's from Jay, Jamie and Raunakk. FFTMCC were no slouches with the bat though, keeping up with the rate and finishing an agonizing 5 runs short! Excellent game. Chilli Richmond got himself 4 wickets, and nearly lost us the game with the retired batsman itching to come back in!

The week we have 4 fixtures again:

Saturday 7th
