These 2 played together at Shaw Cross Sharks ARLFC from age 7 to 15. On the field together for the first time in 4 or 5 years today, this time at Reserves level. Who knows what level it will be next time?...

🚨 Unacceptable Language and Behaviour (ULAB):
We Need to Act Now 🚨

We are only weeks into the 2026 Community Game season and we’re already seeing worryingly high levels of unacceptable language and behaviour (ULAB) - not just from players, but what is concerning and somewhat disturbing is acts of discrimination from adults on the side lines when they are supposedly there to support the children.

This is a serious issue. It is completely unacceptable, it goes against everything our sport stands for and reinforces our commitment to tackling discrimination in the Community Game.

Rugby League has worked hard to build an inclusive, respectful environment through initiatives like 'Tackle It'. But the rise in these early season incidents shows we ALL need to do more.

Sanctions are clear:

Players found guilty of ULAB: Minimum 3‑match suspension starting from U11s

Coaches, volunteers & supporters found guilty: Harsher penalties, including permanent suspension from the sport

Clubs failing to act (particularly in relation to supporters): Games played without supporters or even forfeited

This is a collective responsibility. Clubs must ensure players, volunteers and supporters understand the standards of behaviour expected - and the consequences when they’re not met.

If you witness or experience Unacceptable Language and Behaviour, please report it here: https://tinyurl.com/y7takzyr

Please make sure you share this message with all club members and anyone attending Community Game matches.

Together, we protect the values of our sport.

Thank you.

BEHAVIOUR

This one’s uncomfortable, but it needs saying. We’ve had reports of players pulling down shorts and inappropriate touching whilst going through the tunnel at the end of a match. I can only imagine how awful it is for any player to experience it and then have to report it. This isn’t a joke, or boys being boys, banter, hazing, a bit of a laugh, or any of the many other excuses people come up with for this unacceptable behaviour. It’s sexual assault and it has absolutely no place in our game. It needs to stop now.

RED CARDS

Just a reminder about red cards. Once a referee gives a red card, that’s it. It can’t be taken back and under no circumstances should you ask the referee not to send in a report or even question if they will be sending in a report. The referee must file a report.

If you need clarity about why the red card was given, ask politely and calmly. There is a limit on who can ask the referee. The player can ask (probably best to wait until emotions are settled), the Captain and any Team Official named on the Team Sheet can also ask. Shouting across the pitch in an aggressive manner won’t help anyone.

DISCIPLINE

A quick heads‑up: Simon Adamson has stepped down as our Discipline Co‑ordinator. We’re really grateful for everything Simon’s done and we’ll still see him around at events.

For now, Alan Smith at the RFL is picking up discipline emails sent to [email protected] while we take our time finding the right replacement. Simon has left some big shoes to fill!
