Thornhill Roses Ladies 1 Methley 3

It was the final. The one we’ve all been looking forward to.
First and foremost can we all appreciate how far the woman have come to make it this far, what an effort they’ve put in this season.
The girls were eager all arriving at the playing field for 6pm and raring to go. After a good warm up we were ready but so were methley and soon found themselves a goal to the good early on.
The roses calmed and were not to pushed over easily creating chance after chance but the methley keeper and their defenders stood strong.
Eva’s teasing corners just wouldn’t drop for us then methley added another as the glaring sun beemed down on our defence and keeper which caused an unusual error for our cat Gemma.
The roses again attacked and won more corners and set peices this time we had our goal. Eva again with a wonder ball that found an onrushing Alice who headed home to set up a huge second half.
managements words at the break were to just go for it cause them all sorts of problems which is exactly what we did, again we starting to create chances but this time the ball just couldn’t find the back of the net and on the break methley added a 3rd which just about hammered the nail in the coffin.
With 5 minutes to go we still wanted to end the game on a high but again their keeper was up to the task and not allowing us to have anything. The game ended 3-1 but the girls can keep their heads held high they played a team a division above and last years cup champions and gave them a real good game.
They end the season runners up in the cup in what they would only dream of reaching, every single Thornhill player should be proud of themselves we can’t wait to get going again next season.

Fantastic day for the roses 🌹

Thornhill Roses 3 Pontefract Cougars 1

Semi-final day down at the hill and oh did we have a treat for you. The girls knew it was going to be a tough day but nerves were not to get the better of us today. From minute one we were at the Cougars, not giving them any time with the ball. We found ourselves well on top in the first 10 minutes, grabbing an early opener when Eva launched a long throw which found a high-raised cougar arm and a penalty was awarded. Up stepped a calm-headed Jade Farrar who slotted the pen to keepers’ left, leaving her no chance to get near it. The visitors tried all they could to get the game level once again, but the back three of Beej, Emma and Michelle weren’t going to let them have any easy chances. Thornhill also tried to double their lead in the first half, with Eva flying down the right side, causing their defenders all sorts of problems and our captain Alice coming close a few times. We brought fresh legs on to give them more to think about. Amy and Chloe Bridgewater came on and just ran at them, they didn’t know what to do. Izzy on the left was finding herself with more time on the ball and creating chances. Martha and Chloe Kemp had a few chances but their keeper wasn’t letting anything in easily. With 5 minutes left of the half, the visitors equalised. The girls again knew it was going to be tough if they were to reach the final. Andy’s words of wisdom at the break were to compose yourself in front of goal and the win will come. That’s exactly what happened. Chloe Kemp latched onto a through ball from Alice, gave the keeper the eyes and slotted home into the bottom right corner. The away side knew they had to throw all they had at the Hill, but the cat Gemma was not letting anything past her in this half. With them attacking us, they found themselves tiring and leaving gaps for our midfield to play some perfect passes into our front line. Izzy, Eva and Martha once again all came close to sealing the deal, but again their keeper was up to the task before Kemp finally made sure we were going to that final! Again, a looping ball from Alice and she had it in the back of the net to see the game 3-1. Unbelievable effort from the girls, well deserved on reaching the final 💚🖤
