❤️Thank You from the Derry & District Coaches

As the Gaynor Cup comes to an end, we want to take a moment to reflect on what has been an incredible week.

Beyond the football, this week was filled with laughter, friendships, memories and quality football. The bonds created, the experiences shared and the moments enjoyed together will last long after the final whistle.

A huge thank you to our coaching team — Roisin, Paul, Mark, Ciaran and Eugene — for their dedication, commitment and passion throughout the week. We would also like to thank Brian and Ciara for their fantastic support, along with all the parents, guardians, family members and supporters who helped make the trip possible. Your encouragement means so much to the players and coaches alike.

Most importantly, thank you to the clubs. Your players have been exceptional ambassadors for both your clubs and Derry & District. You should be incredibly proud of them. They are a reflection of the outstanding work being done week in, week out to develop and support young footballers. Please continue encouraging them to play as much football as possible — that's where growth happens. 🔑⚽

Every single one of you brought something different to this team. Your effort, commitment, character, resilience and teamwork made this group special. You represented Derry & District with pride and gave everything for the jersey.
From all of your coaches, thank you for an unforgettable week. We are immensely proud of each and every one of you.

Now take everything you've learned back to your clubs. Keep working hard, keep learning, keep enjoying your football and keep playing as much as you can.

This may be the end of the Gaynor Cup journey for this year, but it feels like only the beginning for this talented group of players.

🏆 Gaynor Cup Shield Final – Derry & District Girls 🏆

The result may not have gone our way, but what an achievement it was for these girls to reach a prestigious Gaynor Cup Shield Final. Not many teams get the opportunity to compete on this stage, and every single player should be incredibly proud of what they achieved this week.

Roscommon started strongly and took the lead with a superb long-range strike. However, the Derry & District girls responded brilliantly, growing into the game and producing an outstanding performance. They dominated large periods of play and pushed relentlessly for an equaliser that always felt just around the corner.

A special mention goes to our captain, Zara Wade, who was unfortunately forced off before half-time through injury. We wish her a speedy recovery. Stepping up in her absence was vice-captain Eabha O’ Hagan, who led by example with strength, determination, heart and endless energy. She truly drove the team forward.

Every single girl gave 100% from the first whistle to the last. Aoife stepped up magnificently to organise and control the back line after Zara's injury, with Brooke and Beth providing excellent support throughout. Aoife's performance was deservedly recognised when she was named Player of the Match across both teams in the final – a fantastic achievement and a well-earned award.

The game remained on a knife edge until the very end. Derry & District continued to push, creating chances and piling pressure on Roscommon, who knew they were in a battle. The equaliser came agonisingly close on more than one occasion, but when the final whistle sounded, it was Roscommon who claimed the victory.

Despite the disappointment, the overwhelming feeling from the coaches is one of immense pride. What a week. What a performance. What a team.
The Derry & District girls were simply outstanding.

The future of football in Derry is incredibly exciting, and we firmly believe this is not the end of the journey for this group. In fact, it feels like the beginning of something very special.

This incredible group is making history as the first-ever girls' team from Derry & District to reach a Gaynor Shield Final 🏆

The girls will face a strong Roscommon side in what promises to be a highly competitive game.

Give it your all, girls, and enjoy every second of the occasion. You have already made your mark and inspired so many along the way.

WHAT. A. PERFORMANCE. 👏🔥

The team delivered when it mattered most, producing an outstanding display to book their place in the final!

⚽ Clara O'Doherty opened the scoring with an absolute wonder goal, setting the tone for a fantastic team performance.

⚽ Eabha O'Hagan, who was outstanding throughout, found the net with a brilliant finish to make it 2-0 and put Derry & District firmly in control.

Every single player played their part today. The work rate, determination, teamwork, and quality on display were incredible from start to finish. This was a complete team performance and one that everyone involved can be immensely proud of.

Massive well done 👏 to Eabha O Hagan on receiving player of the match what a performance!!

The big day has arrived for Derry & District as they take to the field in this morning's Semi-Final, with kick-off at 12 noon! ⚽🔥

What a fantastic achievement to have reached this stage of the competition. The hard work, dedication, and team spirit shown throughout the season have earned this opportunity, and everyone involved should be incredibly proud.

Let's get behind the team and show our support as they aim for a place in the final!

Football is what brings us together, but these weeks are about so much more than what happens on the pitch.

They’re about building confidence, creating friendships, learning to communicate, and growing as individuals and teammates.

This week, the girls completed their first task — taking the time to get to know each other better and sharing what they appreciate about one another. The kindness, respect, and encouragement shown was a reminder of what makes this group so special.

Strong teams are built on more than skill and results. They’re built on trust, support, and the connections made along the way.

What a team.
