Matlock Cycling Club Welcome to the page of Matlock Cycling Club! http://www.matlockcyclingclub.org.uk/ Matlock Cycling Club is believed to be at least a hundred years old.

We are one of the country's premier cycling clubs with members ranging from children who are taking their first steps towards learning how to ride a bicycle, to cyclists who enjoy success racing at world class level. Photographs exist of riders at the Matlock cycling track taken before 1890 and part of the track banking can still be seen in a garden in Olde Englishe Road. Records state that at tha

t time local cyclists reintroduced a carnival in Matlock and that the procession was led by those cyclists. This makes us think that there was a club in existence by then. The club was suspended a couple of years after the Second World War started, and was reformed after the end of the War. Riders of International and National standing who began their careers with Matlock CC include: Annie Last, Cameron Orr, Tim Gould, Julian Gould, Peter Middleton, Mark Hughes, Doug Forrester, Jon Rider, Eric Stone, Chris Hopkinson, Tom Last and Phil Spencer. The Harry Gould ride is coming up on Sunday 5th July. A great ride out for all club members, if you don’t want to do the full route you could join us at Hassop to ride the Monsal trail part or Parsley Hay for the High Peak of the ride.

Please note we have limited resources and the food stops will cater for all including the youngsters of course. Given their pace just be aware if riders are riding ahead that there may not be a food stop when they arrive at Parsley Hay as it will still be at Hassop!

Congratulations to Maia Howell (Shibden Apex RT) on setting a new outright female course record in the Grouse 10 for the Matlock CC open 10 course (A10//16) with 23:01 breaking her previous record set as a juvenile for Matlock CC 👏 Maia heads to the Danish National Time Trial and Road Championships at the end of the month. A heads up for the Bradfield Hillclimb which is now on a closed road so youngsters can ride! This years event takes place on Friday 19th June starting at 7.30pm and the organisers have secured a full road closure thanks to Sheffield City Council. The entry window has been extended until 5:00pm on Monday 15th June. Lots of prizes on offer from local businesses for all age categories.

Due to a mix up in the TT dates, here is an update on the next few club time trials. Tomorrow Thursday 11th June is a 25 mile event, then on Tuesday 16th June there is a Club 10 event and on Thursday 18th June a 8.5 mile event. All are subject to roadworks which have made a reappearance on the course! Details and pre entry for these events are below:

25 mile A25/12 Open 25 Mile Course (also used for Club 25 mile events)
Start : On A6 by lamp post T55798, north of Church Lane, Darley Dale.
Go north along the A6, pass through Rowsley and continue to Bakewell. Return along the A6 to Matlock/
Sainsbury’s island. Return to Bakewell along the A6 turn at Bakewell island to finish by the 40 sign just past
Firth Rixsons, about 200m before the start.

A heads up the Matlock CC Winster Hillclimb is coming up on the evening of Monday 29th June.

With a closed road the event is open to all ages although please note riders must be able to ride the hill unaided and pre entry is through the Cycling Time Trials website at the link below;

This evenings Grouse 10 mile Time Trial was unfortunately affected by traffic lights setting up as the event happened - not ideal! Well done to the organiser and team of helpers and riders for dealing with the situation. Maia Howell (Shibden Apex RT) set the quickest outright time from Martin Smith, Alan Busuttil, Joseph Cook, Guy Cook and Helen Kirk.
