Building Brighter Futures with Gayton School

We recently sat down with the wonderful teaching team at Gayton School to discuss the impact of inclusive sport on their students.

At Adapted Sports Midlands, we believe that sport should adapt to the child, not the other way around. By working closely with schools, we ensure our sessions provide:

Consistency: Mirroring the supportive environments children find in the classroom.

Confidence: Using sport as a tool for emotional regulation and self-esteem.

Inclusion: Removing barriers so every student feels valued.

Check out the full interview to hear why integrated, adapted physical activity is changing the game for young people in the Midlands and beyond.

It’s been a massive couple of weeks for the team at Adapted Sports Midlands! We are all about breaking down barriers, and these updates show exactly how we’re putting that into practice across the region.

Here is a recap of what’s been happening behind the scenes:

🤝 Partnership News: ASM x Elev8
We had a fantastic planning session with our friends at Elev8! We are officially joining forces to deliver a high-energy, inclusive sports session at Wren Park School this Wednesday. We can’t wait to see the smiles on those faces.

🌟 Progress at Aurora School
The feedback from our specialist curriculum programme at Aurora School has been incredible. Our team are seeing genuine, tangible progress from the learners. It’s a powerful reminder that when you adapt the sport to the child, rather than the other way around, the sky is the limit for their confidence.

🚀 Introducing: Movement Development
We are thrilled to announce a major new agreement with a local Trust to roll out our Adapted Sports & Movement Development programme across their schools!

What is Movement Development?
It’s our brand-new project focused on supporting schools to understand and nurture physical literacy from the earliest possible opportunity. We’re helping educators spot the building blocks of movement to ensure no child is left behind in PE.

Why we do what we do:
At ASM, we prioritise emotional safety and individualised coaching. Whether it’s a school hall or a community pitch, we’re here to ensure every young person feels capable, included, and valued.

A Partnership Built for Inclusion!

We are absolutely thrilled to announce our official partnership with Rob Pemberton and the incredible team at Elev8 Sport & Education.

At Adapted Sports Midlands, our mission has always been to remove barriers and ensure every child feels capable and valued.

By joining forces with Elev8, we are taking a massive step forward in making inclusive sport the standard, not the exception.

Collaboration in Action
Recently, the Elev8 team joined us for an intensive training day. We dove deep into the Adapted Sports Midlands Model.

What this means for the Community
This partnership significantly increases our capacity to reach young people. Together, we are now ready to deliver these specialist sessions in the wider area.

"We don’t expect the participant to adapt to the sport; we adapt the sport to suit the participant."

We can’t wait to see the impact this collaboration will have across the Midlands. A huge thank you to Rob and the Elev8 team for their dedication to inclusive excellence!

🤝 Building Inclusion at Wilstead Primary School

Recently, Shaun headed over to Wilstead Primary School to catch up with the team and see how our Adapted Sports sessions are being embedded into school life.

Shaun sat down with Sarah (Programme Lead) and Caron (Headteacher), and the feedback was nothing short of inspiring. Since rolling out their initial sessions, the school has already seen a tangible impact on their learners.

✨ What Makes the Difference?
Shaun had the privilege of observing a session in action, and it perfectly captured the ASM mission:

Tailored to the Individual: Moving away from "one size fits all" to meet every child where they are.

Building Confidence: Creating an environment where pupils feel safe to challenge themselves.

Preparation for Life: Using sport to develop the emotional regulation and social skills needed for the wider world.

🚀 What’s Next?
The success at Wilstead has been so immediate that they are already looking to expand their groups to reach more learners. Even more exciting, the school is exploring ways to upskill further staff members to lead informal "active play" sessions during breaks and lunchtimes.

It is a joy to work with a school that shares our belief: the sport should adapt to the participant, not the other way around.

"Happy, engaging, and tailored, everything needed to allow pupils to continue their development for the demands of school and the wider world." Shaun, Adapted Sports Midlands

Huge Congratulations to Susie Crago! 🏅
We are absolutely bursting with pride for our incredible Occupational Therapist, Susie, who conquered the London Landmarks Half Marathon over the weekend! 🏃‍♀️💨

Susie took on the 13.1-mile challenge in aid of an amazing Alzheimer’s charity.

Despite a "somewhat uncooperative" left knee and the inevitable aches of the day after, she crossed the finish line and secured some well-deserved medal bling!

At Adapted Sports Midlands, we talk a lot about resilience and pushing past barriers. Susie, you’ve truly led by example.

Support the Cause
Susie braved the agony (and the training!) to raise vital funds for those living with Alzheimer's. If you want to show some love for her hard work, you can still donate to her fundraising page here:

We’ve just been over to see the folks at IPMTeamwear to pick up some shiny new uniforms! There’s nothing quite like that "new kit" feeling to get everyone buzzing for our next session.

🐣 Happy Easter from Adapted Sports Midlands!

Wishing a very Happy Easter to all our incredible athletes, families, and supporters!

At Adapted Sports Midlands, we believe that every child deserves a chance to shine, develop, and, most importantly, have fun.

Whether you’re spending the bank holiday weekend hunting for eggs, enjoying some well-earned rest, or staying active outdoors, we hope your day is filled with joy and inclusion.

We are so proud of the progress our participants continue to make. Seeing your confidence grow on the pitch and in the hall is the best treat we could ask for!

We can’t wait to get back to the action and see those smiles again soon.

Have a wonderful, inclusive, and accessible Easter Sunday!
