We hate giving our customers surprise bills, and always give an estimation up front. However, sometimes much needed work doesn’t reveal itself until the bike is worked on.

This was the case with this pre-loved YT Industries mountain bike.
Recently purchased it came to us and on inspection it required a service, brake bleed and tubeless top up to get it back on the trails.
Once work started it became apparent that some of that pre-love was also tough-love with some “I’ll give it a go” DIY thrown in.
Seized brake pistons, rear shock struck out, badly built rear wheel, with new tyre, chain, and rear derailleur needed.

We updated the customer every step of the way keeping them abreast of the price of the extra work and parts to ensure there was no surprise and they were happy. Parts were sourced as competitively as possible and itemised labour kept the bill as transparent and manageable as possible.

This bike is back on top form and ready for some more tough-love which it can handle in spades.

A very modern problem.
We all love a bargain when buying a bike, and there are some great ones to be had online with direct to customer purchases, missing out the middleman.
But when that bike needs a service or repair, just where do you take it? It’s then that you discover that all the old bike shops have disappeared, because they were the middleman, selling bikes with a modest markup to support their service and repair businesses.
A quick web search and Decathlon and Halfords are presented, and being large established brands this gives you confidence that they will know what they are doing.
I had a customer in recently who wanted his cranks removing. It’s wasn’t until he arrived that he told be that Halfords had had a go and failed. On inspection I saw that the threads on the non driveside cranks had been stripped out because they had used the wrong tool. They had damaged the crankset which would now need replacing and tried to charge the customer for the tool despite this. Fortunately, I was able to retap the threads sufficiently to use the correct tool to remove the crankarms.
It is my personal experience and opinion that Decathlon staff are well trained and competent, but the same cannot be said of Halfords.
There is an alternative, to both these however with small local bike maintenance and repair businesses like ours. Knowledge and experience right on your doorstep, and with friendly service.

This lovely Cannondale was one of three bikes that came in this week from members of Full Power Fitness Gym https://www.facebook.com/share/1AqzvsWTD1/?mibextid=wwXIfr. All needing a service and repairs before the lads do another epic bike packing trip.
This particular bike does all year round commute duties and needed a complete new drivetrain, sourced at cost, and all fitted as part of the service at £70.
The other two bikes were returning customers who know they can trust us with cost effective and thorough servicing.

Always a pleasure to work on fellow Ilkeston CC members bikes. Their support over the past six years has been pivitol in the growth of the business, and in return we have offered our benchmark high standard of work with attention to every detail for the most reasonable of prices, with all parts at cost.
New bike day for one loyal ICC customer and it came to us for a check over. The bike had been very well looked after but was in need of a service, still offered at the value for money price of £70. While it was with us the owner took the opportunity to have new tubeless tyres fitted.
This is good looking bike and I was surprised by how comfortable the geometry was. Design for long periods in the saddle.
