Daventry RFC - Minis Section

🔦 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 - 𝐔𝟖 🔦
It has been a busy few weeks for the U8s with matches away in Nuneaton to Northampton. This weekend, they ended 2025 by taking part in the Northampton Saints Community Matchday Festival.

It was a busy morning with matches against teams from Kettering, Olney, Brackley, Stowmarket, Bugbrooke and Banbury. The team did amazingly well against some tough competition - working hard as a team and developing game by game.

After the Festival, the team made the short journey to Pizza Hut for their Christmas Party before heading back down to the Saints to take in their Champions Cup match against the Vodacom Bulls. They even got the chance to walk the pitch for a lap of honour at half time alongside to other teams from the morning's festival.

The U8s now have a break over Christmas before returning on the 4th January, where they return home to face a South Leicester RFC team.

🔦 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 - 𝐔𝟏𝟐 🔦
The U12 finished off 2025 in style with another strong performance against a spirited Kenilworth side. With many players suffering from seasonal illness, Daventry travelled with just the 12 players and quickly found themselves behind following a breakaway intercept try from the hosts.

They quickly levelled up the match and then found themselves taking the lead thanks to a solo break from fly half and pacy scores from the wing. Dominant efforts in defence and continued pressure in attack saw Daventry consolidate their lead before Kenilworth scored a further two tries through great team play.

There was plenty of heart and effort on show throughout from both teams with the core values of rugby being demonstrated throughout.

After the Christmas break, the U12s head straight back into action as they face South Leicester RFC on the 4th Jan.

🔦 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 - 𝐔𝟏𝟏 🔦
Last Sunday, the Daventry RFC Minis made the journey across the border into Warwickshire to take on Nuneaton Old Edwardians Rugby Club.

This week's spotlight focuses on the U11 as they looked to continue their strong early season form. Here is Coach Chris' review of the weekend:

"The team arrived and had a good warm up, raising their effort levels to where they had been the previous Sunday".

"When the game started, Daventry showed great energy - hitting the rucks and making some big tackles. This put pressure on the opposition and allowed Daventry to move the ball from one side of the pitch to the other using great hands to score".

"The team carried on with great intensity, and never let Nuneaton have more than a few phases of play. This resulted in more great team tries where the whole team played their part".

"With the second half under way, the U11’s started the half strongly. We had more success in our attack with strong running and great hands allowing a few more great scores. Our defensive line held out to keep another clean sheet".

"The team should be very proud of themselves, as the hard work they have been putting in, is really starting to pay off".

It's another busy Sunday of Minis and Junior Rugby at the club this weekend with hundreds of travelling players joining us from Milton Keynes Rugby Club and Rushden & Higham RUFC.

Away from the club, the U12s make the journey across to Bedford Junior Blues Rugby for another game. The final two matches of the weekend see the U13s travel over to Milton Keynes and the U15s crossing the county to face Oundle Rugby Club.

Last weekend, the U9s braved the rain and cold as they took part in the Northampton Saints Community Matchday Festival, where they took on teams from Northampton Old Scouts RFC, Milton Keynes Rugby Club, Olney RFC and Northampton Casuals. It was a day of mixed fortunes but the team eventually remembering their training and finished the day strongly. The day ended with the group watching the Saints PREM Rugby Cup match against Newcastle where they got to do a lap of honour at half time!

Following a number of weeks travelling to clubs around the county, this weekend is a quieter one for the Minis and Juniors with many of the age groups hitting the pitches for some overdue training sessions.

On Saturday, the U9s make the journey to Northampton Saints for their Matchday Festival, where they will then take in their Premiership Rugby Cup game against Newcastle Red Bulls.

The only other matches of the weekend see the U12 Girls team host the travelling Northampton Casuals and the U15 Boys welcome Official Kettering Rugby Football Club..

Last week, the U7s made the journey up to Broadstreet Rugby Club in the latest fixture of their first season of rugby. Here is Coach Ben's post match reflections of the day:

"We arrived in Coventry, all excited and well drilled, ready for the challenge ahead. After a quick warm-up and a little handing drill to dial in and sharpen our senses, our work was cut out for us as our U7s faced a mixed aged Broadstreet team consisting of both U7s and U8s. But fear not as we had our own secret weapon in our U8 who played and helped level out the playing field. She was an excellent addition to our already strong squad.

"We played two 10 minute matches before the break. We were really trying to incorporate some of our defensive skills that we worked on last week at training, where all players implemented their new found skills and at times were as soild as a fortress. All were vocal and rallying their counter parts to form the defensive line, giving themselves the best chances at upsetting the oppositions attacking play".

"Minutes before 11am, we had a quick huddle and discussed what and why we would have a two minute silence. 11am arrived, and all minis from both clubs stood together shoulder to shoulder and respected the two minute silence. When the time had elapsed a large cheer and applaud erupted from the players, coaches and spectators alike".

"Game 3 and 4 were now to take place. Knowing the defensive line was being utilised and after witnessing many fantastic solo efforts I wanted to incorporate more passing into our game. I told the kids to have fun and enjoy moving the ball around more freely".

"In whole, the mighty Daventry U7s played with heart and truly impressed not only myself but the oppositions spectators. It was good to hear positive feedback about our team from the other team’s parents and coaches too! And one dad trying to get his son to copy the ‘Line on me’ shouts! I left Coventry with immense pride in my team and felt really positive as the players week in week out just keep on improving".

"I like to say a big thank you to my counter part Adam and the whole of the Broadstreet team for hosting us".

It is another busy weekend of rugby for the Minis and Juniors with a host of games taking place home and away!

Week on week, our players take to the field, playing for one another, demonstrating each of the core values, growing confidence and wearing the badge with pride!

A huge thank you to all our Minis parents for your support at the Halloween Disco at the club 🎃🧡

From helping set up, lifting and shifting, buying tickets and just turning up with big smiles – it made such a difference. The children had the best time and it’s only possible because of you.

A few of our U12 and U14 girls took part in the Northampton Saints Community Half Term Camp yesterday at the cinch stadium.
They had a great day developing their rugby skills with other players from across the county!
