Woodlane Ishinryu karate club has been established for over 50 years and we encourage all ages to keep fit, socialise and learn a great form of self defence.

Woodlane has a new Superstar!

Millie joined Woodlane colleagues Jade and Angelina yesterday at the Competition preparation day alongside friends from the Barking Abbey and Rushgreen clubs.

Millie was the youngest and the newest competitor helping us yesterday and she did a fantastic job at KickMaster, Kata and Kumite - so good, that our officials voted her competitor of the day!

I think we’ll be seeing a lot more of this young lady.

Millie and team smash it

We run our Dragons classes at Woodlane throughout the school holidays, but inevitably our junior class gets smaller – especially when it’s very hot in the Dojo. So last night, we relaxed our dress code and allowed Ishinryu T-shirts to replace Gi tops. But not for everyone…

Millie is 7 years old and our latest little superstar. Her regular attendance and behaviour in the class meant that we were able to grade her to her first red-stripe belt and she passed with flying colours. Millie couldn’t attend the Summer Course this year, so we made a special exception to grade her anyway. Expect to see a lot more of this young lady.

Two sisters. Two journeys. One destination.

Congratulations to sisters Phoebe (10) and Luna (7), who both passed their karate gradings this week with excellent performances.

Phoebe has recently started to train in our general class, ready to challenge herself and continue progressing on her karate journey. Luna is loving life in our Dragons class, where learning karate goes hand in hand with the fun and laughter.

There isn't just one path to success in karate. Some children are eager to push themselves with new challenges, while others thrive by building confidence, making friends, and enjoying every lesson. Both paths lead to the same destination.

We're incredibly proud of both girls and look forward to watching their journeys continue together.

A sad farewell to two valued students

Sometimes our club feels like a family, and like any family we hate to say goodbye.

Abigail and Lawson have been part of our Dragons team for a while now, but a move abroad means they can no longer attend. All of us at Woodlane wish them all possible happiness in their new home and hope they get the opportunity to continue their Karate Journey.

Very hot in our Dojo last night, so only a few Dragons were training in ‘Summer’ gear in our class.

Congratulations to Satara!

Satara graded to 8th Kyu Yellow Stripe yesterday evening. She gained a well deserved 1st class pass in a very thorough grading that saw her challenge every other Dragon in Kumite. This will be our last club grading for a few weeks now - anyone ready to grade during June and July will need to attend the Summer Course.

Well done Satara and well done to all our Dragons who trained last night.

A special welcome to Millie, who joined our team this week. Looking forward to seeing her in Gi and badges very soon.

A few of our Dragons brought their medals and certificates along from Saturday (not everyone remembered) but all of them brought their energy and enthusiasm last night. A good session.

Getting excited yet? You should be!

It's just over two weeks to go until our first ever inter-club ISHINRYU DRAGONS CHAMPIONSHIP.

50 Dragons from across our clubs will come together on May 30 at the Woodlane Dojo to compete for medals, for glory, and for the sheer excitement and fun of competing.

Bookings are now closed - we already have 50 of our Dragons booked. Those of you who are booked will be receiving links to payment very soon.

You can’t keep our winners down at Woodlane

WHAT’S NEXT?

ALL our Dragons need to enter our next competition on Saturday May 30th. It’s Ishinryu only, and we look forward to meeting and greeting our fellow Ishinryu clubs to compete with us at the large hall in the Woodlane Dojo. The event will feature Kickmaster, Kata, team Kata and Kumite. Get booked now to be part of it.
