Woodlane Ishinryu karate club has been established for over 50 years and we encourage all ages to keep fit, socialise and learn a great form of self defence.

Congratulations to Satara!

Satara graded to 8th Kyu Yellow Stripe yesterday evening. She gained a well deserved 1st class pass in a very thorough grading that saw her challenge every other Dragon in Kumite. This will be our last club grading for a few weeks now - anyone ready to grade during June and July will need to attend the Summer Course.

Well done Satara and well done to all our Dragons who trained last night.

A special welcome to Millie, who joined our team this week. Looking forward to seeing her in Gi and badges very soon.

Woodlane Dragons United

A few of our Dragons brought their medals and certificates along from Saturday (not everyone remembered) but all of them brought their energy and enthusiasm last night. A good session.

Getting excited yet? You should be!

It's just over two weeks to go until our first ever inter-club ISHINRYU DRAGONS CHAMPIONSHIP.

50 Dragons from across our clubs will come together on May 30 at the Woodlane Dojo to compete for medals, for glory, and for the sheer excitement and fun of competing.

Bookings are now closed - we already have 50 of our Dragons booked. Those of you who are booked will be receiving links to payment very soon.

WHAT’S NEXT?

ALL our Dragons need to enter our next competition on Saturday May 30th. It’s Ishinryu only, and we look forward to meeting and greeting our fellow Ishinryu clubs to compete with us at the large hall in the Woodlane Dojo. The event will feature Kickmaster, Kata, team Kata and Kumite. Get booked now to be part of it.

First steps for our newer Woodlane Dragons

Congratulations to Maryam, Manha, Jo and Adomas on passing their first Ishinryu grading to 10th Kyu yesterday evening.

Part of our 2026 intake, all four started training with our Dragons this year and all are looking good with their new Red Stripe belts and Diplomas. Well done all.

Well done Luna - our April student of the month.

Her growing confidence and her willingness to get involved in all aspects of Dragons training won her this award. Luna will be entering her first ever Open Competition next week and we look forward to seeing her perform her Kata at the KDF event in Dagenham.

Big smiles from our latest Grading

Please congratulate Gabriela, Phoebe, Daisy and Ben for passing their latest grading last night - here seen wearing their new belts.

All four have worked hard to reach this level, and their regular attendance and excellent attitude to training has paid off. We're very proud of all of them.

More grading success at Woodlane

Satara and Roman are two of our most focused and hardworking Dragons and it was a pleasure to see them both grade to their next belt last night.
Satara achieved 9th Kyu Red belt and Roman gained his first 10th Kyu coloured belt.
Both are near the start of their Karate journey, and both are already showing great potential. Seen here being celebrated by their fellow Dragons last night.

Lawson and Abigail

Big smiles from this brother and sister team as they celebrate their recent grading to full Red Belt (9th Kyu). Both train really hard in our Dojo and it’s great to see them supporting each other and grading together.

We encourage family teams to train together in our Dojo and give discounted rates to family members from the same household.
