September is here, and there’s plenty happening!

From local sprint and standard distance racing to Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Nice, Copenhagen Half Marathon, Pontevedra World Championships and the Hever Castle Triathlon Festival — there’s something for everyone! 🌍✨

A huge good luck to all our Tri Surrey athletes taking on their September challenges. 💪🏻 We’ll be cheering you on every stroke, pedal and step!

Congratulations to Ben, Adam and Brad on an incredible Ironman Kalmar this weekend! 🇸🇪🏊‍♂️🚴‍♂️🏃‍♂️

With 31 Ironman finishes between them, the boys put on an awesome show in Kalmar and made the club incredibly proud! 💪👏

🔥 Ben – his 3rd Ironman finish and a huge PB of 10:17! What an achievement! 🎉

🔥 Brad – his 12th Ironman and 17th long-distance triathlon finish, making him eligible for the Ironman Legacy Kona Program! 🌺🏆

🔥 Adam – an impressive 11th Ironman finish! 💪

Three fantastic performances and another unforgettable Ironman weekend. Congratulations, guys! 👏👏

Congratulations to all of our Tri Surrey athletes who raced at the London T100 this weekend, taking on the sprint, Olympic and middle-distance events at this iconic race. 👏

A special mention to Pippa, Emma, Jane, and Stu, with Stu racing to an excellent 2nd place in his age group in the sprint event. 🥈

And an extra special shout-out to for completing his very first triathlon! 🎉 What a fantastic achievement—we hope it’s the first of many.

Well done to everyone for representing the club so brilliantly and taking on one of the biggest weekends in the triathlon calendar.

European Triathlon Championships – Banyoles, Spain 🇪🇸

Over the last week, Banyoles has hosted the European Multisport Championships, featuring Duathlon, Cross Triathlon, Middle Distance Triathlon and Aquabike.

Tri Surrey was proudly represented by eight athletes across the championships:

🔹 Martin Vogler – Duathlon
🔹 Nigel Main & Carmen Francesch – Aquabike
🔹 Emma Wade, Andy Cowen, Thalia Hessey, Darren Ballinger & Simon Baldwin – Middle Distance Triathlon

The racing conditions were incredibly tough, with a heatwave pushing air temperatures into the high 30s and the lake temperature reaching 29°C. Due to the extreme heat, the Middle Distance run was shortened to 14km to reduce the risk of athletes overheating.

A huge congratulations to everyone who raced and supported the athletes taking on the brutal conditions—you all did yourselves and the club proud!

A special shoutout goes to Thalia Hessey who is absolutely on fire at the moment! 🔥 She stormed to 1st in her age group, becoming the 2026 European Middle Distance Age Group Champion. 🥇🇪🇺 What an incredible achievement—we’re all so proud of you!

✨ MEET THE COMMITTEE – THALIA ✨

Next up in our Meet the Committee series is our fantastic Kit Manager, Thalia! 💗

Since joining Tri Surrey in 2018, Thalia has gone from completing sprint triathlons to representing Team GB, racing multiple Ironman events, qualifying for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, and most recently standing on the podium with 3rd place in her age group at Challenge Roth 🙌

As Kit Manager, Thalia helps keep our members looking race-ready in Tri Surrey colours, while continuing to inspire us all with her own achievements. Her journey is proof that with the support of an amazing club, incredible things really are possible.

Be sure to say hello to Thalia at training or at one of our club events – she’s always happy to help with any kit questions!

Weekend Round-Up 🏊🚴🏃

What a weekend for Tri Surrey! 💙

Congratulations to everyone who represented the club across a packed weekend of racing and riding.

🏅 Eastbourne Triathlon served up scorching temperatures, relentless hills and strong coastal winds, but our athletes rose to the challenge with some fantastic performances across the Sprint, Standard and Middle Distance races.

A huge congratulations to our podium finishers:
🥇 Simon - Simon Baldwin – 3rd Overall and 1st in his age group in the Sprint Distance! 👏
🥈 Sara - Sara Barry – Sprint Distance
🥉 Emma - Emma Wade – Sprint Distance
🥉 Nicola - Nicola Burnett – 3rd in her age group in the Standard Distance
🥈 Ben – Ben Brouard - Middle Distance

An incredible set of results in some seriously challenging conditions!

⚡ At the Eton Dorney Sprint Qualifier, Ella raced brilliantly to finish 2nd, while also put in a strong performance. Congratulations to you both!

🚴 Meanwhile, plenty of Tri Surrey members were out representing the club at the Ride Reigate Sportive, enjoying a fantastic day on the Surrey roads.

Carol’s journey is proof that it’s never too late to try something new. From learning to swim just a few years ago to representing GB Age Group and completing incredible open water challenges, she’s embraced every step of the triathlon journey with determination, positivity and a smile.

As Welfare Officer, Carol is passionate about making Tri Surrey a welcoming, supportive club where everyone feels they belong—whether you’re taking your first steps into triathlon or chasing your next big goal.
