Week 8 Meniscus Tear Recovery…

I am now squatting 45kg for 3 sets of 10 reps and it feels good (but hard)! I know I can go heavier BUT I’m not letting myself get carried away, I need to focus on increasing the weight slow and allow my knee to fully recover while strengthening all the muscles around it!

LADIES & GENTS…

Don’t be afraid of the gym because of other people lifting four times what you are lifting… or judging you cos you don’t know what you’re doing… chances are no one is actually looking at what you are doing and it is normal to need help!

Everyone started some where, at one point those people were lifting the same amount as you and also probably didn’t know what they were doing!

This guy next to me was squatting probably double my body weight, here I’m only benching 30kg, but he could see I was giving it my all and struggling so came over to motivate and spot!

That’s what the gym is about, everyone is there for their own reason, whether it’s to lose weight, get stronger or better themselves… it doesn’t matter what the reason is, be kind and help people out if you see them struggling!

Thanks to this guy who helped me out in this set and then continued to spot me for the whole set after which I would have completely failed otherwise 👏🏼👏🏼

Pull Ups…

Should I be able to do a pull up because I’m a PT? Not necessarily…

Do I WANT to be able to do a pull up? 100%

Do I know HOW to get my first pull up? YES

A lot of people think because I’m a PT I should just be able to do pull ups and I used to be so embarrassed that I couldn’t do one but the reality is that they are very hard and take a lot of training and dedication to work towards.

If pull ups have never been a goal for someone before, than why would they be able to just do them? It’s literally pulling your whole bodyweight…

Since starting in the gym 8 years ago I have tried out a number of different training styles where pull ups were never needed and I never had specific weight lifting goals, hence I never trained towards getting one!

This year (prior to my injury) I decided to start focusing on being stronger and overall wanted to feel more athletic so I started working with a PT and brought in more specific goals to my training including my back squat weight and being able to do a pull up!

It’s okay to be a regular gym goer and not be able to do everything. It’s okay to ask for help when training towards specific goals.

It’s taking time and a lot of work but I am DETERMINED to get my first pull up by Christmas…

If you also want to reach your first pull up, then I can definitely help you get there 💪🏼

I am now able to bring in a leg day into my workout split which feels amazing!

Working on the same few exercises every week, slowly building up the weight to strengthen the muscles around the knee

I’m adding in a slow light 1-2km jog every few days as well as a small jumping sequence to get my knee used to impact again. Aiming to work towards higher impact exercises like box jumps and sprints which I am hugely missing!

I am finding it quite difficult to not train how I used too but focusing on recovery is important so that’s what I have to do 🤷🏼‍♀️

Had a big dip in my confidence over the last week… recovering from my injury has been a rollercoaster of emotions!

The sudden pressure of social media and looking a certain way that comes with being a personal trainer was a struggle, I had a lack of motivation to post and even a lack of ideas!

But I’m now back and ready to continue working on recovery and my confidence 💪🏼

Drop me a message for any help with your injury recovery!

My name is Jodie and recently I left my stable job in clinical research because I have decided to take the leap in becoming a full time PT!

I grew up being very active, I was a dancer and always part of the school netball, rounders and athletics teams. Similarly to a lot of people, once I left school I didn’t know how to carry on with exercise so gained weight and lost all fitness, but when I turned 20 a friend took me to a group exercise class and I fell in love with exercise all over again. My passion is to help people find their inner athlete as I believe there is some form of exercise that is suitable for everyone!

Once I started attending the gym regularly and making personal progress, I had a lot of friends asking to train with me or for me to create a training programme for them, hence I decided to start studying for my Level 3 Personal Training qualification. Since qualifying, I have already helped a number of friends make progress in the gym or find a form of exercise that they enjoy and would love to help you reach your goals!

Currently I train regularly in Muay Thai Boxing, strength and conditioning as well as netball. In training sessions with me, you will experience a mixture of boxing for fitness, functional training and strength training, there is also an option to learn the basics in Muay Thai! I like to keep training fun and exciting to help you keep consistent.

So now I am a PT, I will be offering 1-1 and 2-1 PT sessions as well as online coaching! So pop me a message for a chat or more info!
