The men’s 2nd team played at home last night against Norton in Hales, in our second meet of the season, and I’m pleased to say we came away with a 4-0 win.

The night started off rather wet and windy but being the eternal optimists that we are we ploughed through and got our matches underway. Jon and Ryan won their first match in style 6-0, 6-0. James and Tom were also on their A-game winning their first match 6-1, 6-2.

By the time we got to the second set of rubbers the weather had improved significantly making for a very pleasant evening. James and Tom continued to play their best tennis winning 6-1, 6-0 in their second match and Jon and Ryan came through with a 6-4, 6-4 win to bring the evening to a close.

A big thanks to Norton in Hales for a very enjoyable match, played in great spirits, and to our home supporters who came out to watch us.

For the first time ever we completely forgot to take a photo so we’re hoping nobody spots that we just edited the last pic we took making it black and white 😂

Last night Woore 2 played at home against Hollies 5. The home pairs were Jon & Ryan and James & Tom.

On what was a very warm night, both home pairs got off to a great start winning their first matches in straight sets. The second matches of the night both went to championship tiebreaks but I’m pleased to say our teams fought valiantly and came through victorious. Woore 2 won 4-0 meaning we continue to sit top of the table.

We’re very grateful to Tom who stepped in for Mark who is dealing with an injury. We’re all wishing Mark a speedy recovery and hopefully we’ll see you back on court soon!

Thank you to all of the supporters who came out to support and we look forward to seeing you supporting for next weeks matches.

Next weeks fixtures:

Monday:
• WTC Men’s 1st team v Shrewsbury Lawn 5 (away)
• WTC Ladies v Hollies 2 (home)

Hi all,

The 3rd Team (“ The Vets”) played at Market Drayton last evening, which was a lovely, warm sunny one, against their 3rd Team , who were younger and proved to be stronger than us, and I’m sorry to have to report that after some good competitive tennis, played in a good spirit, they came out winners 4-0. My thanks to my fellow teammates, Chris, Ian, and Mike for their hard-fought efforts and to Christine, Helen , Libby, and Ryan for coming out to support us.

Chris and I, however, did go on to enjoy some delicious after match refreshments of beef sandwiches and roast potatoes!

Best wishes,
Michael Fox

Our men’s first team played away at Norton in Hales last night. The teams remained as per the last fixture - Logan & Ronnie and Zak & Tom. The team played well given the unfamiliar and somewhat unpredictable courts. Team captain Zak commented “Tom Parkes played some brilliant shots and is arguably accountable for both our wins”. High praise there Tom!

Ron and Logan played their normal game and took their first rubber as per. With a strong 1st pair, Norton in their second rubber were able to take it into tiebreak in the second set and take the win.

Many of our supporters enjoyed the facilities playing crown green bowls courtesy of Mark who offered expert tuition.

Zak said he was pleased with the win but he felt they could have taken the 4 points given the correct conditions.

Our men’s 3rd team are in action tonight away at Market Drayton. Match report from our Chair and 3rd team captain Michael to follow!

Last night our men’s first team played at home to Woodfield 4 in an exciting meet with outstanding tennis on display from both teams. Our teams remained the same from the previous match and we fielded Zak & Tom P and Logan & Ronnie.

We weather watched all day leading up to the match and we decided to go ahead as no rain was in the forecast, but alas, just as the warm up started the heavens opened. After a bit of a delay and another brief warm up, play began.

Both of our teams had clearly had their Weetabix and they stormed through their first rubbers to win in straight sets. Ronnie and Logan played their 1sts winning 6-1, 6-1 and Zak and Tom took on their seconds winning 6-2, 6-2.

The teams changed over and the fight back from Woodfield began. Zak and Tom endured a good opening set against the Woodfield team but once they sealed the first set they turned on the burners to take the second set in style, winning 6-4, 6-0. On the other court Ronnie and Logan stormed the first set to win in efficient style but the Woodfield pair rallied hard and mounted an impressive comeback to win the second, taking the match to a championship tiebreak. Woodfield took an early lead in the tiebreak and it looked like they were on course for a win but our young pair fought back hard to win 10-8. What makes this even more impressive, is that Ronnie played with a hole on his shoe. Someone start a GoFundMe page!

Well done to all who played and to our home support who came out to support the team.

Next up:
- 18th May: WTC Ladies 1 v Town Walls 2
- 21st May: Norton in Hales 2 v WTC Men 1
- 22nd May: Market Drayton 3 v WTC Men 3
