Match Report: AFC Dishers 2–1 Audlem FC
It was another classic Sunday showing from AFC Dishers—chaotic, dramatic, and only mildly organised.
With the gaffer rolling in late (again), reportedly still emotional after Derby’s latest disappointment and clutching what may or may not have been shattered dreams. Tactical talk consisted mainly of “play our footy” before the whistle blew.
Dishers started brightly, or at least more awake than usual, and it paid off early. A moment of absolute generosity from the Audlem back line gifted James Sturge the opener, who said “thank you very much” and tucked it away with all the composure of a man who couldn’t believe his luck. 1–0 Dishers, and somehow looking like a proper football team.
The rest of the first half was a mix of misplaced passes, optimistic shouting, and at least one player asking what position he was supposed to be playing.
Audlem came out stronger after the break and were eventually handed an equaliser thanks to a defensive display best described as “tribute act to the Three Stooges.” A series of failed clearances, ricochets, and general panic ended with the ball in the Dishers net. 1–1, and nobody willing to admit fault.
But Dishers weren’t done. Enter Razor—cool, calm, and surprisingly coordinated. After a tidy bit of work from Sturge Razor pulled it back, took a touch, and slotted it home like he’d been doing it all his life. 2–1 Dishers, limbs everywhere, and at least one pulled hamstring in celebration.
The final minutes were nervy, scrappy, and full of heroic last-ditch efforts (and less heroic clearances), but Dishers held on for a hard-fought win.
