Let's Lift The Curfew Run #6

Join us for a 5km run around Exeter as we support This Girl Can’s national campaign, shining a light on the barriers women face when getting active outdoors after dark.

The “silent curfew” many women feel when the evenings draw in shouldn’t stop anyone from enjoying movement and feeling confident outdoors.

Together, we can raise awareness and help make our communities safer, more inclusive, and supportive for everyone.

Sunday 16th May
Bedford Street,
Exeter (w3w - ///scores.afford.lasts)
18:30
Everyone welcome.

Despite the clocks going forward and the days getting lighter, we want to keep safety at the forefront when women are getting active outdoors.

Women should BE safe when walking, running, cycling, or moving how they like outdoors, and we still want to keep the conversation going to ensure positive change happens to ensure this.

Kiprun, the running brand owned by Decathlon, has introduced a new pair of running shorts designed specifically for women who train and race during their menstrual cycle.

The product was developed in collaboration with French menstrual technology company Smoon and features a built-in absorbent brief.

The shorts, called Run 900, combine standard running apparel with integrated period protection. Instead of wearing separate products, runners can use the shorts as a single piece of gear during training or competition.

Inside the shorts is a three-layer brief designed to absorb menstrual flow and prevent leaks.
The top layer pulls moisture away from the skin to keep it dry.

The middle layer absorbs liquid, with a capacity equivalent to about two tampons. A waterproof outer layer helps prevent leaks and control odor.

According to the companies, the protection can last up to 12 hours.

The outer fabric is based on Kiprun’s existing Run 900 Light running shorts.

The garment weighs about 111 grams in a medium size and includes practical features such as a zippered pocket on the back, a small internal key pocket, and seams designed to reduce chafing during long runs.

The materials used are OEKO-TEX certified and tested for skin safety.

The collaboration between Decathlon and Smoon took five years to develop. Smoon has previously produced menstrual swimwear and other products designed for active use.

The Run 900 shorts are priced at €49.99 and are expected to be used for both training and race day.

Tomorrow we celebrate a year since launching our little campaign.

We return to Cranbrook Country Park parkrun with the celebration of International Women's Day with an event led entirely by a female team of volunteers.

All parkrunners are welcome but everyone is encouraged to bring along a female friend or family member to enjoy the country park.

Over the last year we've made links to various groups and promoted and showcased activity available to women and girls in and around Cranbrook.

We hosted an amazing women in sport talk with guest speakers, Bo Jackson Captain of Exeter City Women FC, British Athletics Athlete and fastest British female parkrunner, Innes Fitzgerald, and England Rugby & Exeter Chiefs Women's Poppy Leitch all entertaining and inspiring the audience at St Martin's School.

Worked with Cranbrook Running Club and delivered their first female only 'Back to School' Couch to 5km group which continues with weekly 5km runs.

Delivered event, again working with Cranbrook Running Club to promote the This Girl Can campaign to highlight the curfew women impose on themselves during the darker months due concerns around the safety of exercising at night.

We continue to offer these runs with the running club on a monthly basis and have welcomed over 150 runners.

It's not just been an amazing year for us, women's sport has been epic with the Women's Rugby World Cup being hosted in the City, and the Red Roses win! Not to be out done The Lioness' success at the Euros with that nail biting penalty shoot out was just incredible!

We're now poised to continue this work and really excited to keep promoting women and girls being active in and around Cranbrook!
