I haven't wanted to post about this as it was the most amazing day and never about the money. I think taking to social media is a shame and sometimes a low blow but in todays world and after so many ignored emails its probably the only way forward.

When I ran the marathon it was never for the money. I genuinely had no idea until a few days before that there even was money available. That isnt why I race and to be honest I am never usually around the places that pay anyway so it wasn't in my thinking. Crossing that finish line as the 1st man home infront of my family is a feeling I doubt I will ever get close to again. The day will always have a really special place in my heart but sadly its been tainted by the events after. Grounded events have spun lie after lie regarding the reasons why athletes haven't received their money. I doubt we will ever see it to be honest but I am now taking Brighton Marathon Weekend] to small claims court to hopefully get it that way. Why offer the money if the race cant afford it? For me now its more the principle of the situation as opposed to the money at all. I also know that last years winner from 2021 is waiting for his prize money too. It is a disgrace for such a big race to treat their runners like this.

Unfortunately I will never run the event again and I hope future runners don't get the same treatment we have received.

Please, if a runner, share this post to hopefully help the runners involved ✌️

Update on what we've been up to over the last month:

We’ve had three triathletes complete half-ironman distance races (1900m swim, 90km bike, half marathon) this month. Congratulations to Kieren Stanley, Graham Lane and Harry Boulter. All under six hours too.

Full results for June are here. Congratulations to Maisie for winning the sprint distance triathlon at Eastbourne in June. Other highlights include running chairman Steve and tri chairman Mark escaping from Alcatraz Island in the epic triathlon there, a club aquabike championship win for Jonathan and more successes for Ben W, plus Gaj and young athlete Chris each completing their first triathlons for SLH at Windsor and Trinity School respectively. And the feats of endurance have continued, as Jo swam the length of Coniston in the Lake District, and Gareth, Jim, Jamie, Kieren and Graham each completed sportives of over 200km in Wales. Plus our club cycle ride to Le Touquet went almost entirely to plan – and the badly delayed ferry home didn’t put a dampener on it.

Coming up in July, our club middle distance championship at Eastbourne – plus Karsten will be going for the Ironman distance on the same day! We’ve also got a club tri kit sale on until 7 July. Contact a member of the tri committee for more details.

Dear SLH members,

In light of advice from the Prime Minister, the committee have decided several actions must be taken in order to ensure the safety of our club members, as well as the most vulnerable members of our society. Many of our coaches and volunteers fall into the category of being aged 70+ and some will have underlying health conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to end all coached track/road sessions at Crystal Palace and Track Coulsdon until further notice and government advice changes. The club house will, however, remain open for individual use but please remember to apply the guidelines regarding unnecessary social contact. Those with coronavirus do not always show symptoms which could unfortunately lead to club members thinking they are perfectly well and then unintentionally spreading the virus to those around them.

Runners are a tough bunch who will often power through injury and illness and continue training, however, it is essential we make decisions that will ensure the safety of everyone in our society. This decision has not been taken lightly and will be disappointing for many of those who enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of training in a group, but we would ask you not to disregard this advice.

We will continue to monitor our decision as we receive more information from the government.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Amy Rollason

(Club Welfare Officer)

For the avoidance of doubt, all our Monday swim sessions and Wednesday spin sessions will be cancelled until further notice as well. The Addiscombe club rides on Saturdays are also cancelled until further notice.

As a replacement activity that can be performed while social distancing or self-isolating, several SLH athletes will join in a 'virtual' (online) group ride on Zwift on Tuesdays at 7:15pm. Registration is at https://www.zwift.com/events/tap/oxygenaddict

Looking for some company? Join an official group ride.

This is the page for South London Harriers Triathlon Club, a British Triathlon registered triathlon club and the triathlon arm of South London Harriers, a running club founded in 1871.

We're based in Coulsdon, Surrey where we have a clubhouse and bar, plus easy access to the trails and hills of the North Downs and our floodlit running track. Our pool swimming sessions take place at Caterham School and in the summer we swim in the open water at Diver's Cove in Godstone.

This page is designed to give a flavour of the club - much more details, including how to join, are available on our website at southlondonharriers.org/triathlon. We also have a closed FB group for club members at www.facebook.com/groups/1757107247870265 where news and updates are more regularly published along with our other triathlon discussions.
