So our first game of the season wasn’t the result we were after however, the final scoreline was not a true reflection of the overall game itself. After starting really well, we lost concentration momentarily and conceded a weak goal from a corner which seemed to take the wind out of our sails. After this we had a mad 15 minutes where we struggled to retain the ball and defend effectively which allowed WB Colts to extend their lead as we headed into half time.

Substitutions made just before the break gave us a more attacking threat and we created lots of chances which we just couldn’t capitalise on. Although the same for both teams, the poor playing surface did not suit our passing style of play, which resulted in lots of turnovers in possession, breaking up any kind of positive momentum. Despite being behind for most of the match, we cannot fault the girls work rate and desire to keep working hard until the end. Unfortunately we left ourselves too much to do and the game slipped away from us.

Lots of lessons learnt from this game, and although the result did not go our way, there were positives to take forward.

Our Player of the match went to our absolute machine Carmen. Carmen took on all the coaches instructions for the game & worked so hard for her team

We’re looking for local businesses who would like to support our U11 girls’ team through sponsorship or donations.

We’re raising funds for equipment including winter training coats, an Xbot game recording system, pop-up goals and other training essentials to help our players develop and enjoy the game.

In what has been a disjointed preseason, it was great for the girls to get a final run out this morning, one week before our season opener against WB Colts Sporting.

Today the girls approached the game very professionally, and there were some really good spells of football played.

We saw moments of passing across the field and through the lines, a number of small triangles forming in the midfield and some good attacking play down the wings which was really positive. We created a large amount of chances and scored some really good goals.

Off the ball today we were much better too. Positionally more savvy, stronger in the tackle and worked hard to get back into position and win the ball back.

Still need to up our talking, but it is definitely improving! All in all, lots of good signs going into the league campaign next Sunday.

A well deserved player of the match today for Isla who we thought was brilliant. Strong in the tackle, composed on the ball and always on hand to unleash a rocket. 🚀💪🏻⚽️🙌🏻
