Monasa foal update no 2
Well, this time last week I was convinced that we should put her down. I thought we were being cruel keeping her alive.
How wrong I was!
This is after her medication last night…. Challenge may be to keep her from injuring herself through too much exuberant excessive excitement!🙈
But it’s looking good…. I think

Monasa Lancer, brood mare (Grandorado x Nabab de Reve)
This mother of the filly with the hock wound is a tough nut! She was born with only one eye and we were amazed when her friend Isis (we called her Bomb 😂) used to stand on her blind side during foot trims by farrier in field.
Also when she was 2yo she gashed her fetlock on fence nail… (see below) our vet Paul Martynski did not hold much hope of survival ! Well, she stayed in field and was never even lame. She used to stand whilst Paul treated her… mother daughter alike?!

Monasa’s foal update
She continues to make progress and the swellling is coming down little bit. It’s all encouraging but a way to go yet
Video is her returning to stable after treatment this morning (we bandage at night, which she loves to chew and shred to bits) so calm and courageous… she knows where to go for each treatment, stands while I gently scratch her during oral medication , needles, bandages… bless her and only two weeks old❤️

Horrible wound to hock of 2 week old filly by Mildenberger out of Monasa Grandorado) We think mum trod on it.
Well, if any damage to hock or infection gets in it’s game over.
First photo is Thursday evening after hot day… foal has temp 40 and heart rate too high so thinking of putting her down, poor thing.
Anyway, persevering through night we switched from anti biotics to penicillin injections. By Saturday temp was down to 38.4. We have a chance here.
We are now Monday and the swelling is slowly coming down.
Let’s hope that we pull through.. she has such courage… it would be a travesty to loose her as she looks a really smart foal and we lost her 2yo full sister few months ago.
On reflection we didn’t start antibiotics for 48 hrs relying on metacam anti inflammatory… maybe should have started penicillin straight away.
Wish her luck… she is such a little fighter..💪💪🫶

Rather attractive buckskin c**t by Couer Rouge out of Akhal Teke mare Ashiya Shael (never had a filly from her 🤯)
Strong foal too.
His full brother from last year is also well put together…I have been impressed with all the Couer Rouge progeny (Conthargos x Casall x Cassini I)
