Our summer so far 😊 Settle training with the whole pack (hard with 7 but we're getting there!), socialising and training the young dogs, swimming, sleeping, free runs and trotting to heel, off lead adventures, canihikes, hydro, S&C and hanging out together 👌

Summer holiday (for Jen) can only mean one thing... canicross pre season has started (weather dependent!) 16 weeks until the ICF World Championships 🇵🇱 so the focus for now is base fitness, strength and having fun in the woods together 👌

Freyja and Arlo both have a harness break for a couple of months over the summer to let their bodies and brains recharge, although Arlo still canihikes as he can't go off lead.

Do your dogs follow a fitness programme, or do you go with the flow? Harness break, or keep them running?

Beautiful Phoenix enjoying the woods at the weekend 😊

Feenie's walks at the moment are focused around confidence out and about and in her body (she has plenty of this 🥷), proprioception, recall (we use a long line and play hide and seek) and being indifferent to other people and dogs. She's also practicing her marker word and release que.

Training with Feenie 🌟

I was planning on some recall training in the garden, however, always train the dog in front of you, and the dog in front of me was whining because Apollo had gone for his walk... so a perfect opportunity to train calmness and settle 😊

Feenie caught on pretty quickly that settle = reward (salmon pate and an ear rub), and that shouting = nothing happens. Then we moved onto moving through the dog gate, where again, calmness = reward and we can move, jumping and squealing = nothing happens.

I make sure I set her up for success so she gets it right and loves training; great job, Feenie ❤️

Our beautiful girl Phoenix ❤️ She's settled in to our family like she's always been here, and our other dogs are being amazing too 😊

We're going to be posting about puppy training and how we do it (hopefully we'll remember!) First up a question... what do *you* prioritise with your future canisports dogs? What's important to you?

I'll go first; Phoenix is currently learning (and these will be on going):
Name = look at me
Yes = reward
Okay = release
Crate door opening = sit or wait
Any door opening = sit or wait
Checking in with us = reward
Crate = sleep/chew/chill
Lead on harness = pull (not actively encouraging pulling at this age, but not stopping her either)
Lead on collar = don't pull

It'd be great to have a discussion about what you like to and don't like to train your sled dogs to do, so please comment 😊
