St Michael's Kart Racing Club

St Michael's Kart Racing Club St Michael's Kart Racing Club is part of St Michael's CE High School in Chorley, we are a family fri It provides a cheap and fun introduction to racing.

Saint Michael's Kart Racing Club started in 2000 when the design technology teacher Mr Savage and two pupils showed an interest in forming a kart team. At the time, the school had two very old chassis and one new Honda GX 160 engine. They modified the chassis to accommodate the engine and went racing! Since the club started it has grown over the years to its present structure, with most of the drivers starting out in a school kart and then going on to buy their own. The school has karts for use as well as all the relevant gear (helmets, suits, boots and gloves etc) to get you started! All the driver’s race in meetings all over the country in an organisation called NatSKA - National Association For School And Youth Group Karting. You can find out more about the organisation at www.natska.co.uk. We work on most Wednesday nights in the garages at the school throughout the year, teaching the children, teenagers and parents on how to perform basic maintenance so a better understanding can be built on how the mechanics of the kart work. Parents & guardians are encouraged to get stuck in on race days with the marshaling and lap scoring (NatSKA is non-profit organisation run by volunteers). The aim of the kart club is to enable children (both boys and girls) to experience driving a kart without the expense of purchasing one.

Natska has not visited Rye House for a number of years, so will be an intriguing race weekend down in Hertfordshire.

A fresh hire kart all ready to be picked up by our new novice driver Theo.
When someone enquires about joining the club, one of the questions asked is “what do I get?”
Well this is it.
Not only do you get the help and guidance in getting started, we register you with the Championship, and build you a bespoke kart.
We then supply you with tools, tyres and all the safety equipment you need to go racing with the club.
Interested?
If so contact us and if you meet the criteria you too could come racing.

Rowrah Race Report-

St Michael’s kart team all retuned safely home after another strong weekend of racing in Cumbria. Racing a round each day, Rowrah’s legendary status of conflicting weather conditions, didn’t disappoint.
Saturday started in cold, wet conditions, but by midday it was baking hot.
The sunny weather wasn’t the only thing to warm our hearts as our forever Team Leader Jayne Hull came to cheer us on with her family and friends.
In the evening sunshine, it was then our turn to cheer on the ex St Michael’s drivers and parents who raced in a charity relay race against the other NATSKA teams.
Driving the circuits hire karts, I’m pleased to announce that a St Michael’s team won the race and all together the event raised over £400 for NATSKA.

Sunday was a dry and bright day. Not everything went well for all our drivers, but they never let their heads dip and continued to drive impressively.
Overall the St Michael’s team won 11 throphies over the weekend, with two dominant class wins, in the Honda powered class.
The future looks bright with Claudia and Nieve also being awarded Novice Drivers of the day.

A special thankyou from me and the other drivers to all the St Michael’s Parents and carers who pitched in to help marshall over the full weekend.
Showed what being part a team means, and we couldn’t race if you didn’t do it. Thankyou.

It’s back to Wales for Rounds 9 & 10 in mid May.

See you there,
Fin

FULLBECK RACE REPORT

The team has come back from a strong race weekend at Freezing Fulbeck in Lincolonshire.
Some drivers unfortunately had bad luck, but they never gave in and inspired the team to bring home 7 trophies in total, 4 of which were in class 11.
Kart repairs and preperation have already started in ernest for the next meeting at Rowrah in Cumbria in 2 weeks time.
Well done to all, and especially Claudia who has now successfully passed the first part of her Novice licence.
