Most golfers obsess over the backswing… but the truth? Your score is decided in a split second: impact.
Impact is the moment the clubface meets the ball — and it’s the only thing that actually matters. Not your takeaway. Not how “pretty” your swing looks. Just this one collision.
1. Clubface Control - The King 👑
The clubface angle at impact largely dictates where your ball starts. Launch monitor data (like TrackMan) shows it influences up to 85% of starting direction.➡️ Goal: Match up the face for your intended start line relative to your path.
2. Forward Shaft Lean - Compression 💥
Great iron players deliver the hands ahead of the ball, delofting the club and compressing it against the turf.
➡️ This creates that crisp strike, lower launch, and higher spin control you see from pros.
3. Low Point Control - Strike First, Then Turf 🌱
With irons, the club should strike the ball before the ground.
➡️ Your low point should be just in front of the ball, not behind it.This is the difference between a pure strike and a heavy/fat shot.
4. Weight & Pressure Shift - Power Source ⚖️
At impact, around 70–90% of pressure should be on your lead side.
➡️ This stabilizes the strike and allows consistent contact.
5. Path Relationship - Start Line + Curve 🎯
Your swing path works with the clubface to control curvature.
➡️ Face slightly closed to path = draw
➡️ Face slightly open to path = fade
So instead of asking, “How’s my swing?”Start asking, “What does my impact look like?”
Because when you fix impact… everything else falls into place.
