Almost every group that runs one comes back and does it again.

A fun run is low cost and the event itself creates the kind of excitement that drives sponsorship.

When every participant has their own page to share with family and friends, the money follows naturally.

Read why a fun run might be the best anchor event for your group (see link in the comments).

Sponsoring should take seconds, not a paper form and a "remind me later".

Supporters open the page, choose an amount and give there and then, on their phone, wherever they are.

Every participant gets their own page, with their name, an image and their reason for taking part, to share with family and friends.

The image is optional. Parents and carers can choose what goes on the page - it could be a photo or a favourite toy - and pages aren't listed on search engines, so they're only seen by the people you share the link with.

A personal "sponsor me" lands very differently from one shared link for the whole event.

It's always worth contacting local businesses to ask if they will back your event.

However, to maximise the result, always make the ask specific.

"Please support us" is easy to put off.

"Would you sponsor the medals?" or "Could you cover the refreshments?" is a smaller, clearer ask.

Many local businesses are glad to help when they know exactly what they're giving and where their name will appear.

Pick a few named items, the medals, the finish arch, the water, the colour powder, and approach a different business for each.

A Colour Run is the easiest way to turn a fun event into real fundraising.

Everyone can take part, walk it or run it, all ages, and everyone finishes covered head to toe in colour.

Here's the bit that makes the money grow: give every participant their own page to share, and the photos and excitement turn into donations from family and friends.

There's a world of difference between "donate to our event" and "sponsor Sarah".

When every participant has their own page to share with family and friends, the ask is personal, and personal asks tend to raise far more than a single shared link.

Check out the link in the comments below for the thinking behind individual sponsorship pages.

Planning a sponsored event for your PTA, club or group this year?

Whether it's a fun run, a colour run, a sponsored walk, a swimathon or a read-a-thon, you can now run the whole event online from one easy to use website, fun-run.co.uk.

Everyone signs up and pays their entry fee in a few taps, and every participant gets their own sponsorship page to share with family and friends, so supporters can give from anywhere. Entry fees plus individual sponsorship usually means a good bit more raised, and far less to chase.

It's free to set up your event, and there's no platform fee on donations. You can have your event page live in minutes.
