ForeFathers Coaching

ForeFathers Coaching I help golfers over the age of 30 get stronger, longer, and lose body-fat whilst juggling the demands of being a dad.

I’m afraid to tell you that measuring how far your spine can rotate isn’t a great way of telling you whether you’re making progress.

Not if longer drives are your goal anyway…

Most golfers don’t turn as far as they physically can in their backswing.

Which means that getting 5 degrees further into your ‘end-range’ is probably not going to make much of a difference to your drives.

How much force you can produce and how quickly you can do it however?

Now we’re talking 👏🏻

Instagram still treats golfers like they’re in a yoga class...

…rather than the explosive athletes they need to become.

Get stronger across the body, layer on the power over the top of it,

And then take that into the golf swing with specific swing speed training.

That’s how you’ll hit it further than you ever imagined this summer 💣

Ever thought about being building an app using AI but didn’t know where to start?

As I get ready to release my ‘Iron Strength’ workout app for golfers I thought I’d give a quick rundown of the process:

⚒️ The 2 Tools I used to build it
💰 How much it’s cost
🕰️ How much time I’ve spent
🧠 What I wish I knew from the start
✅ Advantages of using AI
❌ Disadvantages of using AI

Hopefully it helps anyone who has a great idea but can’t afford a development team get it off the ground.

And if you’re interested in being part of the apps testing team comment ME for early access!

Looking back on 2016 was weird…

It feels like that film ‘Sliding Doors’, which I’ve never seen, but know full well the entire plot 😂.

At the start of 2016 I was faced with a choice…

Finally pursue my passion and become a Personal Trainer,

Or take a job working on a trading desk in London.

Thankfully (although probably not financially lol), I decided on the former.

It was also the year and I bought our first house.

Our mortgage payments started May 23rd, and I officially became self-employed and broke 1 month later 😂.

Safe to say it all worked out in the end.

Tomorrow I’ll be getting up at 4:45am to coach, and 10 years later, I still LOVE it.

Golfers copying something they’ve seen a Tour Pro do in the gym is understandable…

Drills and exercises that resemble the golf swing can give off the impression that you’re making changes that might pay off on the course.

But in reality that’s rarely the case.

Sports like golf have a pretty clear divide between the ‘physical’ and ‘skill’ components.

The gym is for training the physical attributes needed for golf:

- Strength
- Power
- Mobility
- Resilience

The range and golf course are for training the skill part of it:

- Swing movement pattern when actually hitting a ball
- Balance in a full speed swing in a golf posture
- Sequencing and tempo under pressure
- And the 15,964 other things that golfers need to learn

I love Tommy, and they probably have some good rationale for adding this into his sessions…

But for most amateur golfers, this kind of stuff is a waste of your already limited time to exercise.

It’s not always just a highlight reel.

Whilst 2025 was bookended by massive highs…

Like being able to take our newborn George back from the hospital, and then celebrating his 1st birthday to finish it off.

But inbetween things got pretty rocky…

And whilst I’m not one for sharing loads of personal stuff,

It’s been a tough one for those closest to me.

So whilst I’m not going to take for granted the privileges we’ve been given…

…I don’t think I’ve got the strength right now to rewind 2025 and do it all over again 😂.

Merry Christmas from the Boyd-Browns.

Our first as a 4-ball and it was even more hectic than we planned.

Here’s to the weird time between Christmas and new year where you’re not sure what day it is and 80% of your diet is cheese and crackers🐷

If you’ve been previously losing some weight or trying to get a bit fitter you might find Christmas a bit of an inner battle…

“Should I relax a bit and possibly stall my progress?”

“Should this be a test of my willpower to see how well I can stick to it when it’s really tough?”

I understand your struggle, and I speak to clients throughout December about it.

The big thing I’ve learnt from 10 years of coaching clients with their health…

There is no right answer!

Which means there is absolutely no wrong answer.

Whatever you decide to do, just own it and move on.

Stay present, enjoy precious time with loved ones, and know that whatever you do over the next 2 weeks isn’t a reflection of what you’ll do the other 50 of the year.

The biggest thing I try to stress to the guys I coach through the rest of the year is “eat in a way that feels intentional”.

Like there has been some plan behind it, and that you feel in control of your food and exercise decisions.

If you’ve decided you’re going to follow a food plan for the week then commit to it…

If you’re out for a meal and going to eat for pure enjoyment and not worry about calories then really savour it.

Don’t regret food or exercise decisions, or berate yourself for not always following through with them.

We’re all imperfect.

Just own them, and aim to make sure most of the time they align with your values long term.

I coach a lot of golfers who train from home with relatively simple setups…

They want to get stronger…

They want to get faster…

But they don’t have loads of fancy equipment to do it.

This is why I love ‘Landmine’ exercises for these guys.

With a bar and some plates you can do so much even if you don’t have access to a squat rack or dumbbells.

These 4 exercises could form the basis of a full body workout and hit most of the major muscle groups most golfers need to focus on.

My upcoming ‘Iron Strength’ workout app contains tons of training programmes and over 300 exercises with video tutorials like these.
