...........MATCH REPORT INCOMING .........
This Sunday we played Eastwood Albion. So we managed to get the game reversed as the fixture was ment to be away, so it was up to us to make the most of the home advantage, and knowing the opposition had a bare 11 men. After a good warm up and a different squad formation everyone knew what was needed to make the win happen.
We started the game slow, first 15/20 minutes even though we showed glimpses of good play we could really make a good inroad into their defence. Eastwood didn’t really show any threat to our goal but we knew we could switch off, and a break down in the centre of midfield allowed us to pick the ball up on the edge of the box and Harvey decided he was going to sweep the ball home with a curling effort, post and in. That was the goal we needed. After more possesion domination we managed to gain the second when Nay Watts decided to go for a solo effort from 20ish yards out on the corner of the area and struck in near post as it crept in under the keepers hands. 2-0 Fc Spire and we were looking good. Play carried on and a little bit of decent play from there resulted in a few corners but they couldn’t capitalise. As the 1st half went on we got corner after corner and eventually a Matt Robert’s left footed corner swung into the middle of the box and Josh Adam’s met the header above everyone to guide it into the goal. 3-0 spire, that’s how the 1st half ended with an Eastwood side showing heavy legs at time due to the bare 11 men.
2nd half we knew would be a different half, them coming out looking for a goal to try and turn the game around and us having to make sure we kept the pressure on without making mistakes. We were slow in transitions at times and we allowed them to have more of the ball than we should have but they couldn’t capitalise break through a back line that’s been solid all game. We carried on the pressure and after a good passage of play Liam Carrington decided to press with the ball and from about 30/35 yards out on the angle decided to had a go and absolutely beautifully bent one into the far corner over the keeper. 4-0 spire and the game dead a buried all we needed to do now was keep a clean sheet against a team that had scored in every game before that. After numerous substitutions we carried on with hard tackles flying in from both sides, their striker had a chance and Jak was equal to it after being stood on by their player. Corners for Eastwood made Spire sweat a little but with good marking and every player knowing their job they weren’t able to tak advantage of the situations. With around 20 minutes to go Substitute again from Spire saw Olly Vardy come on for a rare appearance and he put himself about and with another great passage of play the ball went from CB, to midfield to winger to cm, to winger and the ball played in to the 6 yard box where you guessed it Olly Vardy managed to pounce and put the ball though the defenders legs to make it 5-0 spire. With the clock ticking down and Eastwood having one more chance to score they took a shot from 30 yards, with the ball dipping towards the goal Jak made an amazing save to tip the ball over the bar for a corner.
Man Of The Match Harvey (amazing workrate as always) absolute machine.
Game ended FC Spire 5 - 0 Eastwood.
Thank you for Eastwood for reversing the fixture at such short notice and good luck to them for the remainder of the season.
