💃 WHAT IS JAZZ DANCE?

Jazz is a fun & energetic dance style that combines strong technique with musicality. It's one of those styles where dancers get to really perform and let their personality shine! 💛

In a Studio J Jazz class, dancers work on:

💪 Strength & technique – developing strong lines, kicks, jumps and turns
🎵 Musicality – learning to hear the music and dance with it
🤸‍♀️ Coordination & control – putting lots of movements together
✨ Performance skills – learning how to really sell a dance
💃 Choreography – from classic jazz to fun, contemporary-inspired routines
💛 Confidence – encouraging dancers to perform with energy and personality

And the best bit? Jazz is SO versatile!

You'll see elements of jazz in musical theatre, commercial dance, pop videos, stage shows and competitions, making it a fantastic foundation for dancers who want to explore lots of different styles.

At Studio J, our jazz classes are all about learning great technique while having fun, building confidence and becoming a performer. 🌟

☀️ Where has the summer gone?!

Six weeks has absolutely flown by, hasn't it? I hope you've all had a wonderful summer and are feeling ready to get back into a bit of routine. 💛

I'd love to say my summer has been chilled and relaxing... but I don't think I know the meaning of the word! 😂

We've actually had a really busy (but lovely) few weeks. One of the biggest highlights has been moving house. I'm still surrounded by boxes with plenty of unpacking to do, but anyone who knows us will know we can't resist a renovation project, so I've no doubt there'll be lots more work to come! 🏡🔨

I've also loved having lots of time with my boys. Zach is getting so confident with his walking now – perfect timing to get him ready for Mini Movers! 😉 And Xander has been practising his forward rolls ready for Twists & Tricks! 🤸‍♂️

We've had some lovely days out making the most of the sunshine and we even decided at the very last minute to squeeze in a little holiday to Turkey! ☀️✈️🇹🇷

Relaxing? Not exactly! Two little ones don't really do relaxing holidays 😂 I think I need a holiday to recover from this one!

And, of course, there has been plenty of Studio J work happening behind the scenes too...

💛 MEET THE TEAM 💛

Can we give a big warm welcome to our newest teacher, Miss Leanna! 👋✨

Miss Leanna has been dancing since the age of two. She had a scholarship with the British Ballet Organization at 11 years old. A few years later, was awarded a scholarship with Elmhurst Ballet School. And has completed examinations through the British Ballet Organization and Royal Academy of Dance (RAD).

She continued her professional training at Ballet Theatre UK, where she achieved a Diploma in Ballet Performance. Then continued her studies at Addict Dance Academy, completing a BA (Hons) degree in Dance Performance.

She has danced professional onboard Royal Caribbean Cruises but has a strong love for teaching dance! With several years of experience under her belt, we are excited to have Miss Leanna joining the team this year.

"I now enjoy sharing my passion for dance with the next generation, helping children build confidence, creativity, and passion!"

2 years old.

✨ What do you enjoy doing when you're not dancing or teaching?

I love to cook and bake! And I have recently gotten into crocheting!

Ballet & Lyrical.

✨ What's one piece of advice you always give your students?

Don't compare yourself to anyone else! Your only competitor is you.

💛 MEET THE TEAM 💛

Say hello to Miss Meredith! 👋✨

Miss Meredith discovered her love of dance at 7 years old, and it's been a huge part of her life ever since.

She went on to study Performing Arts at university before entertaining audiences across holiday parks, theme parks and visitor attractions throughout the UK. In 2023, she became a Resident Choreographer and Assistant Casting Director at Alton Towers, and has since continued to explore a variety of exciting performing and teaching opportunities.

We're delighted that one of those opportunities brought her to Studio J! 💛

For Miss Meredith, dance is all about confidence, creativity and allowing every child to express themselves while having fun.

✨ How old were you when you started dancing?
7 years old.

✨ What do you enjoy doing when you're not dancing or teaching?
I love keeping active, so I've recently taken up running! And when I finally slow down, I'm teaching myself how to crochet. 🧶

✨ What's one piece of advice you always give your students?
"Always be yourself. Let your personality shine because that's what makes you unique!" 💛

You'll find Miss Meredith teaching with us on Thursday evenings, where she brings creativity, positivity and plenty of enthusiasm to every class.

Say hello to Miss Lucy! 👋✨

If you've ever met Miss Lucy, you'll know she's always smiling and loves making every class fun!

Having started dancing at just 2 years old, she's trained in a huge variety of styles, including Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Acro, Musical Theatre, Street, Freestyle and more. She has performed in numerous shows, pantomimes, competitions and examinations, building a wealth of experience that she now loves sharing with her students.

For Miss Lucy, dance is about so much more than learning steps. It's about building confidence, making friends, trying new things and creating a space where every child feels encouraged to shine.
