CLUB ANNOUNCEMENT

After a successful first season as Chester-le-Street United, we are delighted to announce that the club will be entering an exciting new chapter and will compete as Grange Villa FC from the 2026/27 season.

This change follows a sponsorship agreement with Grange Villa MW Club, whose support will help us continue to grow both on and off the pitch.

We would like to thank everyone at the club for their commitment to supporting grassroots football in our community.

We would also like to thank all of our players, supporters, volunteers, sponsors, and everyone who backed us throughout our first season.

Your support has been invaluable, and we look forward to building on the foundations we have created together.

There is plenty to look forward to in the coming months, and we are excited to begin this new journey as Grange Villa FC.

Details regarding our home pitch for the upcoming season will be announced at a later date.

🥶🌬️ It was a cold and windy morning as Chester took on The Marksmen in this 2nd round cup clash. Kicking up the slope towards the School end, Chester made a dream start!

🔥 Captain for the day, Tom Illingworth, opened the scoring with a stunning left-footed volley 🚀 — 1-0 Chester Utd!
💪 Buoyed by the early goal, Chester kept pressing and were rewarded again just before 15 minutes. Tom Illingworth struck again, calmly slotting home with his right foot after some defensive hesitation — 2-0 ✅

⚔️ The game became more physical as The Marksmen tried to use the wind to their advantage. Chester’s defence stood strong 💪🛡️, with a great save from the keeper tipping a powerful shot around the post 👏

⏸️ Half Time: 2-0

🔄 The second half started with pressure from The Marksmen, who pulled one back in the 50th minute — 2-1

⚡ That sparked Chester back into life, and soon enough they restored control. Owen Carroll showed great determination to tap in at the post — 3-1 🙌

🔥 Just 4 minutes later, Owen grabbed his second in similar fashion — 4-1 💥
🔁 With a comfortable lead, Chester made several substitutions. Then came a goal from an unlikely source…

🏃‍♂️ Centre-back Woody charged forward causing chaos 😅 before smashing the ball across goal, forcing an own goal — 5-1
🌧️ In the closing minutes, during a heavy shower, Chester were awarded a penalty.
❄️ Cool as ever, skipper Tom Illingworth completed his hat-trick from the spot 🎯⚽️ — 6-1

Match Report – Sunday, March 15th

It was back to league action this morning for Chester Utd Sunday Team, with Farringdon Detached The Alexandra visiting. From the start, it was obvious the elements were going to play a part, with a strong wind blowing across the pitch towards the Wear End. 🌬️

Alexandra were quickly out of the blocks, earning an early corner which was dealt with effectively by the Chester defence. Despite that confident start from the visitors, it was Chester who opened the scoring with a flowing move. Precise passing from defence through midfield finally released Brooklyn down the left side, who drove into the box to test the keeper. It looked like the chance had gone, only for Kane Barron to keep the ball alive, slotting it past a stranded keeper and putting the home side ahead 1–0. ⚽

Building on that platform, it wasn’t long before a second arrived. This time it came following a crisp exchange of passes between brothers Owen and Jack Carroll. Jack then played a pin-perfect through ball to the onrushing Brooklyn Moss, who finished past the Alexandra keeper to make it 2–0 to Chester. 🔵⚽

To their credit, the opposition dug deep and started to enjoy a good period of possession. From that came a free kick just outside the box. Alexandra’s number 8 stepped up and placed his effort into the top corner, beating the Chester keeper despite his best efforts to reach it. The score now 2–1. 🎯

Five minutes before half-time, Alexandra pulled level. Another dead-ball situation wasn’t dealt with by the Chester defence, and the ball was put away at the far post to make it 2–2 going into the break.

With heavy showers and that strong wind continuing, the second half became a real battle. 🌧️💨 The referee showed both teams a number of yellow cards during this period as the game became increasingly competitive.

The game finally turned after Chester conceded a corner. Farringdon took full advantage, scrambling the ball home to make it 2–3 to the visitors. ⚽

Chester pushed hard for an equaliser, with some great play between Owen and Kane down the right flank. Unfortunately, despite the extra effort from all the lads, the equaliser didn’t come.

So, after a competitive game played in difficult conditions, the match ended with an away win for the visitors. Chester players will perhaps feel disappointed after playing some excellent football at times. 👏

⚽ Match Report | Norman & Lynne Nellins Memorial Cup – Quarter Final

Chester United welcomed Jarrow Crusaders on Sunday morning for a quarter-final clash in the Norman & Lynne Nellins Memorial Cup, with the visitors kicking off towards the Park View School end with the early morning sun behind them.

The opening stages proved to be a closely contested affair. Jarrow settled into the game well, but it was United who created the first clear opportunity to break the deadlock. Further chances followed around the 20 and 23 minute marks as Chester began to find success down the flanks, applying pressure on the Crusaders defence. Jarrow responded with several counter-attacks of their own, but both sides defended well and ultimately cancelled each other out as the half concluded goalless.

Half Time: Chester United 0 – 0 Jarrow Crusaders

United began the second half with renewed energy and intent to take control of the game. Their persistence paid off just five minutes after the restart. From a well-delivered corner by Owen Carroll, the ball was swung deep into the box where Brooklyn Moss rose highest to power a header past the goalkeeper and give United a deserved 1–0 lead.
Chester had a golden opportunity to extend their advantage on 55 minutes when Kane Barron found himself through one-on-one, but his effort drifted wide of the target. A number of substitutions followed which disrupted the rhythm of the match, with both sides receiving yellow cards as the contest became increasingly physical.

The game reached a pivotal moment in the 80th minute when United substitute Arren Birkby was shown a red card following a late challenge, leaving the hosts to see out the closing stages with ten men. Despite the setback, United defended resolutely and looked close to holding on for the win.

However, with just three minutes remaining, Jarrow capitalised on a momentary lapse in concentration. A well-struck first-time effort from outside the box beat the home keeper to level the score at 1–1 in the 87th minute.

With no further goals before the final whistle, the tie was decided by a penalty shootout. Both sides converted their opening three penalties before Chester’s fourth taker Fin Lockey saw his effort go wide. United goalkeeper Callum Quarrie then produced an excellent save to keep his side in contention. The shootout remained finely balanced before Jarrow gained the advantage when Chester’s sixth penalty was saved, allowing the visitors to seal a 6–5 shootout victory and progress to the semi-finals.

It was a cruel end to the cup run for Chester United after a determined performance, particularly after being reduced to ten men. Credit to Jarrow Crusaders, who held their nerve in the shootout to advance.
