⚪️ Post-Match Thoughts: Tottenham 0-2 Newcastle

Another frustrating afternoon in N17, and there’s no getting away from it — 0-2 at home hurts. Two league games, two defeats and still no Premier League goal. It’s certainly not the start any of us wanted.

But as a Spurs fan, I’m trying to keep some perspective.

Rome wasn’t built in a day. Roberto De Zerbi has inherited a squad that has endured two incredibly difficult seasons, while this summer has brought a huge amount of change. Over £300m has been spent, new players are arriving and, ultimately, a new manager is trying to implement his football, his ideas and his philosophy.

That takes time.

There were frustrating moments today. Omar Marmoush had opportunities, Pedro Porro went close and Dominic Solanke saw a late effort cleared off the line. Newcastle, meanwhile, scored with both of their shots on target.

That tells its own story.

But I don't believe we suddenly become a bad team because of two defeats. There are clearly talented players within this squad, and we saw encouraging signs against Charlton in midweek.

What we need now is patience, belief and a reaction.

De Zerbi needs time to get these players understanding exactly what he wants from them. The combinations, movement, pressing and attacking patterns won't suddenly click overnight.

We’ve waited a long time for a proper rebuild. Perhaps this time we need to allow the process to actually happen.

I'm disappointed. I'm frustrated. Of course I am.

But I’m not giving up on this team after two games.

The season is a marathon, not a sprint.

Stick together. Give the manager and the players time. Keep believing.

⚪️🔵 Is Nicolas Jackson the Answer for Tottenham?

With Tottenham still looking for more firepower, Nicolas Jackson has emerged as a name that could potentially move to North London. And the big question for me is simple:

Is he actually the answer?

There is plenty to like. Jackson is quick, powerful, mobile and capable of stretching defences. He can run in behind, press from the front and contribute outside the traditional No.9 position — qualities that could make him an interesting fit for Roberto De Zerbi's system.

But the numbers make this an intriguing debate.

At Chelsea, Jackson has scored 24 goals and provided 10 assists in 65 Premier League appearances, starting 59 of those games. His best season was 2023/24, when he produced 14 goals and 5 assists. That dropped to 10 goals and 5 assists in 2024/25.

Last season, he moved to Bayern Munich on loan, scoring 8 Bundesliga goals in 23 appearances, plus three Champions League goals.

So we're looking at a player with 45 goals across the Premier League, La Liga and Bundesliga, but who has never yet produced a 20-goal league season at the top level.

And that's where I'm torn.

Can De Zerbi unlock another level from him?

Because perhaps that's exactly what the manager sees.

Jackson's movement, pace and ability to play across the front line could be perfect for a fluid De Zerbi attack. He wouldn't necessarily need to be the traditional target man — he could drag defenders around, attack space and create opportunities for Marmoush, Savinho, Kudus and Maddison.

But after watching Spurs struggle so badly in front of goal against Brentford, I'm asking whether we need someone more proven.

Someone who guarantees goals.

Perhaps Jackson becomes that player.

Perhaps De Zerbi sees something the rest of us don't.

And if he comes to Spurs and starts banging them in, I'll happily admit I was wrong! 😂

But right now… is Nicolas Jackson really the answer?

😔 A Brutal Reality Check for Spurs

What a desperately disappointing way to start the new Premier League season.

As a lifelong Tottenham fan, you always hope that a new season brings a clean slate. After everything we endured last year, there was genuine excitement around this team. A new manager in Roberto De Zerbi, huge investment in the squad and a number of exciting new signings. Expectations weren't necessarily sky-high, but there was certainly renewed optimism.

Then came Brentford.

And what a reality check it was.

Spurs have spent around £237m this summer, including a club-record £100m on Sandro Tonali, and yet we looked completely overwhelmed by a Brentford side that were sharper, hungrier and far more cohesive.

Going 2-0 down inside 33 minutes was bad enough. Failing to register a single shot on target in the first half was even worse.

Brentford didn't just beat us — they dominated us.

Keane Lewis-Potter was given far too much space for the opener, Vitaly Janelt doubled the lead and Michael Kayode added a third after the break. We were fortunate it didn't become even uglier when Igor Thiago hit the post from the penalty spot.

I don't want to overreact after one game. It is one game. De Zerbi deserves time to implement his ideas, new players need time to settle and there are still plenty of positives within this squad.

But let's be honest — this was nowhere near good enough.

You can lose football matches. You can have an off day. But I expect a Tottenham team wearing that shirt to show fight, intensity, personality and desire.

Today, we looked short of all four.

There is plenty of time to put this right.

But after the optimism of pre-season, this was a huge disappointment.

We go again. We always do.

Because regardless of how bad things get, I'll always love this football club.

⚪️🔵 IT STARTS HERE… BRENTFORD AWAY! 🐝

The wait is almost over. Premier League football is back and Tottenham Hotspur are ready to begin a new chapter under Roberto De Zerbi.

Go behind the scenes at Hotspur Way as the squad prepare to travel across London for our opening-day clash with Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium. After a full pre-season under RDZ, this is where the hard work starts to become reality.

There is a completely different feeling around Spurs this summer. New players, a new head coach, a fresh tactical approach and a squad that has undergone some serious rebuilding. Spurs have already invested heavily in the squad, including Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke, as De Zerbi looks to reshape the team.

And there is plenty to be excited about.

The latest fitness news is encouraging too, with James Maddison, Mateus Fernandes and Destiny Udogie back in training and available for selection, although their involvement from the start remains uncertain.

De Zerbi has made it clear from the very beginning that he wants to bring his football philosophy to Spurs while building confidence and a strong relationship with his players. After helping secure Premier League survival last season, he has now had a full pre-season to properly implement his ideas.

Now comes the bit we've all been waiting for…

Competitive football.

Brentford away. Opening weekend. New era.

Absolutely gutted to see England bow out of the World Cup tonight after defeat to Argentina in the semi-finals. It hurts, especially when you get so close, but I'm incredibly proud of the effort and commitment the lads showed throughout the tournament.

As a Spurs fan though, I have to say just how delighted I am for Djed Spence. He's been absolutely outstanding from start to finish. His performances have shown exactly what so many of us believed he was capable of, and hopefully this is just the beginning of a huge season for him back in a Tottenham shirt. He should return to Hotspur Way full of confidence.

Speaking of Hotspur Way, it's brilliant to see the squad back for pre-season. Seeing the new boys getting up and running, meeting their teammates and getting to work under Roberto De Zerbi (RDZ) is genuinely exciting. A new era, fresh ideas and a squad full of talent... I honestly can't wait to see what this team can produce over the coming months.

The optimism is back, pre-season is underway, and before we know it we'll be counting down to that first Premier League fixture.

Here's hoping it's a season to remember.

Tottenham's search for a new midfield general appears to have taken another step forward.

Following an unsuccessful £80m move for Sandro Tonali, Spurs have reportedly accelerated their interest in West Ham's Mateus Fernandes, with the 21-year-old now emerging as one of the club's priority targets.

Reports suggest talks are progressing positively, although West Ham are believed to value the Portugal international at around £80 million. Fernandes has also attracted interest from Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, highlighting just how highly regarded he has become.

It's already been a busy summer in North London, with several new arrivals through the door, but adding a young, technically gifted midfielder could be another statement signing as Roberto De Zerbi continues to shape his squad.
