AURORA OPEN SHOOT 6th SEPTEMBER 2026

Another Aurora shoot in the bag and what a fantastic day it has been with just over 70 archers joining us on a beautiful sunny day as we remembered John smith, one of the Aurora faithful who sadly passed away recently.

We were delighted to be joined by John’s family who kindly presented the medals to the successful archers – thank you so much for joining us on this special day.

Huge thank you to all of the archery family for supporting us – we never take it for granted, to all Aurora members for making it happen, especially our very own “Swiss family Grundon” for creating such a fabulous course – well done one and all.

Thank you as ever to Radical Bikes for letting us to use your ground and Lord Petre for his fabulous woodland.

Today was a standard big game round of 2 x 21 targets but with the added Brucie Bonus of 28s being scored for a pro-kill on the first arrow (as well as the usual 24) with each 28 counting 2 spots making the maximum possible score of 1176 with 84 spots. Huge shout out to Iain Cope shooting Compound Unlimited who scored 1102 with 62 spots… monster score - respect due!!

Here are the full results, many congratulations to all of our medal winners.

AND FINALLY...

Next Sunday 13th September we will be holding our Aurora club champs on the same course as used today so if you were unable to attend or want to pit yourself against the course setters again, you are more than welcome to come along to shoot alongside.

10am walkout and there won’t be any medals but there will be the usual tea coffee, cakes etc.

Payment on the day for shoot fees and refreshments will be entirely voluntary at your discretion.

We’d love to see you, so if you want to join us then please email us on [email protected] to secure your place (NFAS members only).

Thank you once again and see you all again soon xx

Afternoon all,

John Smith

We heard this afternoon the very sad news that one of the past Aurora faithful, John Smith has passed away peacefully in his sleep following a short illness.

John hadn’t shot for a while but once an Aurorean, always an Aurorean and he will be greatly missed.

Our heartfelt thoughts and deepest condolences go out to his family and friends on behalf of all his archery companions. He will be greatly missed.

RIP John

Well, just got back after a wonderful second day at the Afan Nedd Dragon shoot - huge thanks and well done to the organisers for making it so and especially to Sandra Anderson for the fabulous hand-made medals - they really are a very special treat 🙏🙌

Thanks too to Ceri, Isla and Freya for being such wonderful shooting buddies for the day 🙏🙏 and to Freya for inventing the “floppy” high five every time she got a 20 ✋🤣 going to steal with pride on that one ☝️😄

Will definitely be returning next year hopefully with a few more Auroreans in tow… well it can’t be just me in the obligatory group photo can it 😆

Fantastic first day at Afan Nedd for their weekend Dragon shoot made all the better by the wonderful company of Jane, Trevor and Ceri.

Really cleverly set and tricky course with a great variety of distances and terrain… involving lots of uphill shots…. very unusual where we normally shoot and definitely not a freestyler’s best friend… godsdamned clicker 😆😬

Thank you to all of the home team, great job 🙏 looking forward to round 2 tomorrow 🙌

Well thats a wrap on another weekends shooting, two very hot and sweaty days in sunny Essex at Excalibur Archers.

A plethora of the Aurora faithful made the trip as always.

If you are looking for a great course and shoot to attend, this is definitely one to consider 💯.

Saturday was a challenge shoot 2 arrows at each target with 50 targets to play with 5 for a wound and 10 for a kill, luckily this made the maths easy to work out so the shoes and socks could stay on 😂, and also with the infamous hunting trail at target 5 meant some running was needed to complete it, as only 1 min was allowed to shoot all 6 shots.

Sunday was the usual big game shoot we all know and love on another testing and tricky course and of course it wouldn’t be right without the usual s**t and Aurora banter to help us along the way.

Some shiny tin was obtained as well along the way with medals won in the Bowhunter, Barebow, AFB and freestyle classes. Aurora in the house 😎😎.

Thanks as always goes to Mel for keeping us fed and watered both days ⭐️ and as always we can’t forget Stan for setting a tricky, technical, brilliant sod of a course both days 👏🏼💪🏻

Hopefully see you all there again in October for some more arrow flinging shenanigans, 😎🏹💪🏻

Fantastic time at Bridgewoods for their half and half Big Game / Woodsman shoot today 🙌👍 Some very cleverly laid targets perfect for the format and terrain bringing out some excellent scores across all classes, mind you, figuring out what constitutes a good woodsman score is still a work in progress 😝🤔 although seeing targets transform into arrow porcupines is always a delight 😝😝

Very well done and thank you to the course layers, catering, marshals and admin - fabulous job, hugely appreciated 🙏👏

Half a dozen Auroreans descended on Kent and a had a fun-filled and fruitful medal day with Nikki securing Gold 🥇 in HT, Garry Silver 🥈 in Freestyle and Martin Gold 🥇 in Freestyle. Well done everyone. Special thanks to John Foster and Andy Doyle for chaperoning us through the day 🤣🤣

Looking forward to the next one 😆🙌

What a wonderful way to spend a Thursday - bunking off work, beautiful woodland shooting arrows as guests of HNA for the day 😊🙌

Nine Auroreans made the trip down the road to our nearest neighbours and had a blast 🤩

Thank you to all of the home team for putting on these midweek events - we really appreciate it 🙏 oh and thank you to Dave for putting up with Steve and yours truly for the day… 😆

Bit late in the day posting (only just recovered 😆) but from all of us Auroreans who attended the Welsh 3D Champs at the weekend, we say a huge well done and thank you to everyone at Pendragon and Blaidd for laying on yet another epic challenge 🙌🙏

Both courses were spectacular and a true test of skill, stamina, strength and sense of humour 😆

Catering, Admin and marshalling were equally awesome - the complete package one could say 🙌🙏

Congratulations to all medal winners - you earned those, not forgetting our very own Aurora medalists - 🥇 gold for Owen Bardon in Cub Barebow and 🥈 silver for Kieran (Big G) Grundon in Bowhunter - well done chaps - thoroughly well deserved 🤩🙌

Looking forward to next year already (assuming we’re quick enough off the draw to get booked in 😆😆).

Thanks again - you spoil us 🥹
