Martial Arts offers a unique way to teach focus, discipline, confidence, respect for others, self respect, commitment, concentration, peer pressure skills, the ability to follow instructions and to follow the proper etiquette. All these skills are necessary tools for our children to cope in an ever changing world. Our instructor at Balfour Karate Club is Sensei Mel (4th Dan) and our assistant inst
ructor is Sensei Amy (2nd Dan). Sensei Mel is a qualified school teacher and started training in 1992 following in the footsteps of the rest of her family. She was awarded her 1st Dan in July 1998, 2nd Dan in February 2006, 3rd Dan was attained in October 2011 and her latest grade of 4th Dan was awarded in July 2017. She has run Fairview Karate Club since 2013 and trains at the Lordswood dojo with Sensei Glen Wright. Balfour Karate Club is part of the Kent Shotokan Karate Clubs, an organisation that has been established for over 40 years, with fully qualified and experienced instructors. We cater for children from the ages of 5 – 18 years split into two sessions according to age and ability with no more than 15 students in each lesson. Training fees are £6 per lesson and a licence and membership is required, generally purchased after 4 – 5 weeks. The Chief Instructor is Sensei Glen Wright (7th Dan) – our new website is currently under construction but will hopefully be available soon to view additional information about the KSKC. Advancement through the colour belt ranks are only given through our grading system, which are held 3 times each year in July, November and March as we believe this gives pupils the time and instruction to be fully prepared and confident to move on to the next level of their training (you will receive more details prior to your first grading in the booklet ‘Your First Grading’).
