β˜€οΈ With temperatures set to hit the 30s this next coming week, we wanted to give everyone a heads up ahead of your lessons! 🐴
⏰ 48-hour cancellation reminder

If you're thinking about cancelling due to the heat, please do so at least 48 hours before your lesson to stay within our cancellation policy and keep your credit. πŸ’›

Please also be aware that in hot weather, we may adapt lessons to keep everyone β€” horses and humans β€” safe and comfortable. This might look like:

🌿 An on-site hack and maybe a splash in the river! πŸ’¦

🧹 A stable management or Goal setting session

🐎 A lighter lesson β€” walk and trot, no cantering
If you're joining us in the sunshine β€” brilliant! 🌻 Just remember to:

πŸ’§ Bring plenty of water

πŸ‘• Wear light layers

🧴 Don't forget the suncream!

We can't wait to see you β€” our horses are looking forward to the sunshine too! πŸ΄β˜€οΈ

One of our lovely clients who competed in our dressage competition this evening. Well done Courtney! We are very proud of you. πŸ‘

Here’s the thing…life isn’t about being perfect.

Today’s dressage test didn’t go the way I would have liked BUT it’s how we address it.

I sat here for a while beating myself up over silly mistakes but we now know and will try not to do them again!

I went into this dressage test very tired (I went to a concert last night, entirely my own makingπŸ˜‚) and had a freshly clipped pony on quite a warm evening. The warm up wasn’t fantastic ( we spooked and refused to go past a gate we have been past numerous times πŸ‘€) and we did have to be led into the arena πŸ˜‚

The test wasn’t as bad as I thought but once I’d made a mistake, my head went!

Now, we work on the comments we received, get consistent with my reformer pilates and we talk to ourselves a lot nicer!

I have to keep reminding myself that I have improved by 16.3%!! Even my instructor could see a difference!

Reframe your thinking and you will naturally start being kinder to yourself

🐴 Are you using a field safe headcollar? Here is why it matters.

A few weeks ago we were lucky enough to welcome the team from Equilibrium Products and British Horse Society to MA Equestrian for a photo shoot β€” and it gave us the perfect opportunity to talk about something we feel really strongly about.

Field safe headcollars are something every horse owner who turns their horse out in a headcollar should know about β€” and yet they are still not as widely used as they should be.

Here is the simple truth: a standard headcollar will not break under pressure. If a horse catches it on a fence, a gate, a branch, or even their own hoof β€” it will not give way. That can cause serious injury, or worse.

A field safe headcollar is specifically designed with a breakaway section that releases under pressure. It means that in an emergency, the headcollar does what it needs to do β€” and your horse gets away safely.

What we love about Equilibrium is that their approach goes beyond just making a product. Everything they do is backed by case studies and scientific evidence, and their commitment to horse welfare genuinely aligns with everything we stand for at MA Equestrian.

If you are turning your horse out in a headcollar β€” please make sure it is a field safe one. It is one of the simplest changes you can make for your horse's safety.

Here is Custard modelling one of their gorgeous colours! Take a look at their page.

🐴 An important one from us β€” please read.

At MA Equestrian, the welfare of our horses is at the heart of absolutely everything we do. They work hard, they give so much, and it is our job β€” and yours β€” to make sure they are always looked after properly.

One of the most important ways we do that is by making sure every rider is matched to the right horse. And to do that accurately, we need accurate height and weight information from you.

We know this can feel like a sensitive subject and we want to be clear β€” this is never about judgment. It is never about how you look or how you feel about your body. It is purely and simply about the horse.

Horses can only safely carry a certain amount of weight relative to their own size and condition. Asking them to carry more than that, even occasionally, causes discomfort and over time can lead to serious physical problems. That is something we will never knowingly allow.

So we ask β€” kindly but firmly β€” that the height and weight details you give us are always accurate and up to date.

If you do not have access to scales or a tape measure at home, please do not guess. We have both at the yard and you are always welcome to use them before your lesson. No awkwardness, no questions β€” just come and check.

Thank you for helping us keep our horses happy, healthy, and able to do what they love. 🀍

πŸ¦„ Well done to all our riders who took part in the clear round and team showjumping last week.

πŸ† Congratulations to the teams winners for:
Class A - Beatrice, Primrose and Matilda.
Class B - Lilly-Mae, Flo and Bella.

πŸ‘ Even though the weather got a bit wet and windy, everyone still rode brilliantly and the horses were great. Thank you everyone for attending and showing your support!

🌿 It is officially lush grass season, which means it is also time to think about laminitis.

Laminitis is one of the most common β€” and most preventable β€” conditions we see in horses this time of year. And yet it still catches people by surprise every spring / summer.

The simple version: summer grass is high in sugars. Some horses cannot process those sugars well, and too much in one go causes inflammation in the sensitive structures inside the hoof. It is painful, it can be serious, and once a horse has had it once they are more likely to get it again.

The good news is that with a bit of management it is very avoidable.
Watch your grazing time, especially in the mornings. Keep an eye on weight. Soak your horses hay to reduce the amount of sugar in it. Know your horse's risk level. And if something does not look right such as heat in the hooves, a change in how they walk, standing awkwardly, call your vet sooner rather than later. 🐴
