Match Report - 30/04 🗞️

West 1-2 Harraby Catholic Club FC Sunday Men’s

Scorching Thursday night down at Keenan for an away trip to Harraby for the West.

Kick off for Harraby playing into the sun first half with the wind behind their backs.

Scrappy first 15 minutes, both teams look up for it but Harraby looking more on the front foot.

Harraby capitalise on a quick counter squared to Ell T to finish well. 1-0 Harraby 20 minutes in.

West looking more threatening now after the water break, getting in behind a bit more and forcing some corners but still not testing the Harraby keeper.

Half time - 1-0 Harraby. West growing into the game but disappointed with a lack of clear cut chances.

Battling start to the second half again with not much good football on display on the bobbly Keenan pitch.

Few more chances for the West starting to get in behind but still not managing to hit the target. Frustrating watch.

Harraby go up the other end and a cross/shot sails over Len with the low sun causing havoc to make it 2-0.

Harraby lad lets fly from 25-30 yards out, great effort but tipped onto the bar well by Len almost breaking a finger with the power behind that one.

West claw one back with 15 mins to go after a good ball to the back post for Hen W to finish well, first shot on target.

Pushing for a winner now with Hen launching balls into the box, hitting the bar twice but Harraby defending well.

Harraby managed the game out well and we run out of time to find the equaliser, fulltime whistle goes and Harraby take it 2-1.

Good competitive game but story of the season for us in a few games now just not being able to get the ball over the line. Credit to Harraby, battled well all game and made it difficult for us. Cheers for the scran in the club boys!

No game this Sunday but back to it next Thursday @ home v Upperby - 6.30 KO.

Match Report - 26/04 🗞️

Morton West 5-4 Beehive

Back at Scotby this week as we faced the beehive at home.

We started strongly and much the better side, the deadlock was broken as Cliff who had acres of space at right for the first half played in a dangerous early cross which found there lad head it into his own goal. 1-0

Beehive with very few chances launched the ball direct from the back, the ball bouncing over Mike and there lad put it away. 1-1

Bean who was looked sharp all game took the ball from left and fired it post and in from the edge of the box. Great finish 2-1.

Bean got the next one aswell when a larl scamble in the box fell nicely to him and he tucked it away. 3-1

Beehive got a dubious pen awarded as the ref deemed it handball from Rob which there lad put away nicely. 3-2

A nasty collision between there keeper and Bean saw a stoppage in play and there keeper having to go to AnE for some stiches. Halftime..

Second half Beehive started the better team making a number of good chances the pick of the bunch when there lad was squared to 6 yards out, Len got over really well to produce a great stop with his foot keeping us ahead.

We regained our 2 goal lead when Bean took it past there lad on the wing to cut it back to Alf who rifled it from the edge of the box great finish. Important goal 4-2.

Rob got the next pressuring there back line and nicked it before tucking it away well. 5-2

5 to go Beehive got a second wind and made a go of it to be fair, getting a couple of late goals with there last one being basically the last kick.

Some good performances all over the pitch today after a few weeks without game best weve been in a good while.

MOM - Bean, arguably best hes been for the west, top today.

Shoutout to Tob today as well getting a first round win boxing up in Glasgow!

Next up it's a tough game away to Harraby at Keenan Park, hopefully a few more available for the west this time looking to avenge the defeat earlier in the season.

Since the mighty Northside have stuck a social media post on saying we cocked playing them today and disabled the comments on their post, we'll let the comments on this one decide who the ones that cocked it were...

This is the pitch Northside claimed to be "unplayable" an hour and a half before kick off last week, the day after uppies and downies and the grand national, even after we told them we'd waxed £650 on a bus to get there... And then refused to change the date of the rearranged game this week 😂

Not to mention the "home advantage" they desperately wanted, a.k.a, the ref, who decided not to check the pitch last week but went to support them on Friday night and sweep water off their pitch last night, and also decided to give us abuse on social media last week... But was still allowed to ref the game. Make that one make sense.

Games well and truly gone boys.

Unfortunately today's County Cup Semi Final has been called off by the opposing team 3 hours prior to kick off due to "standing water" on the pitch, despite no match official bothering to check.

Match Report - 22/03 🗞️

West 2-2 Longtown football club

Unbeaten league leaders Longtown made the return to Scotby looking to avenge their earlier cup defeat to the West at San Scotby with interim gaffa Roberto G at the wheel this week.

Not much to report first half, end to end and a proper scrap with both teams cancelling each other out. Chance of the half fell to Longtown from a corner towards the end of the half but Cliff on the line there to see it away. Into half time 0-0 and both sides feeling like the game there for the taking.

All the action second half and Longtown started the better side and capitalised early on after a parried cross fell to their lad who put it away nicely.

West under pressure and Longtown pushed and got the next about 10 mins later after Len clears and there lad just about catches and throws it back down to his foot - ref says no handball goal given 2-0 longtown.

With the game going only one way and Longtown on top it could've been 3 but another goal line clearance from Cliff kept it to 2. We then dug deep and found a second wind starting to make chances and finding a foot in the game after a slow start to the second half.

About 15 to go we get a deep free kick, Toby pings it on goal but their keeper spills it and following in for a debut goal Ben Rebanks first to react getting one back for the west.

Game closing out there fullback launches it long from his own half the bounce just about beating Len stumbling back to his own goal, Longtown thought it was over the line all the 12 subs running on the pitch but wasn't over the line (ask Pearsy).. No goal. 2 minutes left of normal time.

We go up the other end throwing men forward and win a corner and another class delivery from Tob finds Bugs head which the keeper flapped before coming off the bar and falling to no other than super signing Ben again putting it in as our 2 subs ran on the pitch giving it back to Longtown who were wounded. 2-2.

The last remaining seconds saw a long ball pumped forward from the back and Bug getting in one on one and looked to be a late winner but just not getting the ball fully under control and their keeper sweeping up.

Fulltime 2-2.

Another good meeting against Longtown, always a good game and the boys dug deep to make sure we're the only team to better them this campaign. Cheers to the lads for good numbers back at the clubhouse as per and all the best for the rest of the season! 👏🏼

Another away day out west on the cards as we draw Northside away in the County Cup Semi Final!

Tough draw against a side sitting top of the west prem and unbeaten all season, but with an unbeaten record ourselves out west we'll be loading the bus and heading out there to cause an upset.

Tie to be played Sunday 12th April!
