The Gillies began the defence of their league title with a hard-fought victory over Carlisle City on Sunday.

With six players from last season’s double-winning squad moving on, it was a new-look Gillies side with several players making their league debuts. Despite a scrappy opening against a physical and hard-working City side, the boys settled well and built a comfortable lead.

Eddie opened his account with two quick goals, followed by strikes from Olly and birthday boy Rhys. City pulled one back after the break, but Rhys added his second before debutant Harry headed home a superb Bobby delivery.

Victor then completed an impressive debut with a goal against his former club, before City added a third late on.

Not our most fluent performance, but a positive start to the season and, most importantly, three points on the board.

🏆 MOTM: Rhys – Two goals and a constant threat throughout. A memorable birthday for the Gillies midfielder!

⚽ Gillford v Warwick — Season Opener ⚽

What a way to start the new season! 🔥

An early kick-off didn’t stop the boys from hitting the ground running as Gillford produced a dominant display victory Warwick.

From the very first whistle, the boys were on the front foot, playing some fantastic football. The passing was slick, the movement was brilliant and we saw some fantastic team moves that resulted in some great goals. 👏⚽

The boys moved the ball quickly, found space brilliantly and showed great confidence in possession. There were plenty of moments where the football was exactly what we’ve been working towards, with pass, pass, move and finish football producing some excellent chances and goals.

⭐️ Charlie ⭐️

A brilliant all-round performance from Charlie. During his time in goal, he kept a clean sheet, showed great strength and was dominant throughout. A fantastic display! 👏🧤

Charlie was pushed all the way for the award, with Kirby and Brook also putting in fantastic performances and both being strong contenders for MOTM. 👏⚽

Brilliant football and a fantastic team performance to open the season. Plenty to be happy about and plenty more to build on!

Well that was a game and a half today against Warwick Blues.

Warwick are always a team that are above us in the league. Their manager at the end said to me that the game was end to end and that's what it was.

As we said at half time and the end of the match, the only things let us down today was the tackling and some of the positions. Apart from that we played really well and matched a team who is normally above us in the league so thats a massive credit to lads and how far they have came on.

There were some lovely passes and that led us to a goal. I also said to the lads at the start that we are in a better league now and we will be playing better teams so go and do what we do best and play some amazing football.

🏆 4-Way Tournament Report 🏆

A little 4-way tournament today to kick-start our season, with four U10 teams battling it out:

⚽ Gillford Park U10
⚽ Gillford Park Blacks U10
⚽ Abbeytown U10
⚽ Castletown U10

A great opportunity for the boys to get some competitive football under their belts before we kick off our league season in just 7 days!

🏟️ Game 1 — Gillford Park v Gillford Park Blacks

A derby to kick things off against the Blacks.

We started very sluggishly and never really got going, although we were always in control of the game. We created a few opportunities but couldn’t quite find that end product, with a few chances going begging.

Eventually, the boys found the breakthrough with a couple of late goals to finish with a victory.

🏟️ Game 2 — Gillford Park v Abbeytown

We always have to be at our best to beat a strong Abbeytown team, and today was no different.

The boys certainly stepped up. We found our stride in this game, with some brilliant passing football on display and the boys really starting to play the Gillford way.

A fantastic victory against a very strong opponent.

🏟️ Game 3 — Gillford Park v Castletown

A comfortable win in this game, but what was really good to see was that even though we dominated and scored a number of goals, the boys kept their composure throughout and continued to stick to the Gillford way of playing.

A comfortable victory gave us 3 wins from 3 in the group stage.

🏆 Champions League Final — Gillford Park v Abbeytown

We told the boys that Abbeytown would be looking for revenge and we certainly weren’t wrong!

Although we took lead, Abbeytown were still very strong and made sure we knew we had to be at our best if we wanted to get anything from the game.

They kept the pressure on in the first half, getting a goal back and looking the more likely team to score again.

During half-time, we reminded the boys to continue playing our way, keep calm on the ball and trust that the opportunities would come.

And they certainly took it on board.

The boys came out for the second half and put their foot on the gas to win the tournament overall! 🏆

A brilliant display throughout from all the boys. Some great footwork, some great passing and some great strikes.

Most importantly, they showed that when they stick to our way of playing and trust what we’ve worked on, the opportunities will come.

Going into the final we were undecided and had a couple of players in mind.

However, after the final it was an easy decision.

Lennon took control of the game and was absolutely everywhere.

He demonstrated brilliance throughout and really put his best foot forward when it mattered most.

A superb performance all round.

A fantastic experience for our Gillford Park Under 11s at St George’s Park, home of England’s national teams, as the boys took part in the All Stars Cup.

Playing at the same venue where England stars such as Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham train made the day even more special. It was a brilliant opportunity for the boys to experience the surroundings of the England team!

The boys played teams from all around the country and won one of many finals decided on a penalty shootout! ⚽️ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
