Sometimes the problem isn't where the pain is... π¨
A while back, one of our instructors Ellie, picked up what she thought was a hip flexor injury. She assumed she'd pushed it too hard, so she rested and tried to manage it herself.
But after getting it properly assessed, it turned out to be something completely different.
It was actually a Grade 2 adductor strain, caused by a muscle imbalance from consistently training one side more than the other.
The injury wasn't because she'd been pushing that muscle too much...
It was because she hadn't been training it enough.
It was a huge reminder that our bodies are incredibly good at compensating, and over time those imbalances can catch up with us.
Since this injury (and since becoming an instructor) Ellie makes a conscious effort to train both sides, even when one feels a little less coordinated than the other. It might not be as fun in the moment, but it's made her a stronger, more balanced dancer.
This is your little reminder:
β¨ Train both sides.
β¨ Don't ignore your weaker side.
β¨ And if something doesn't feel right, get it checked by a qualified professional.
Sometimes the answer isn't what you think it is. π
