Reflecting A Week On.
Some trips become memories… others become part of your story.
Around six months ago this journey was just a goal.
It started with making the decision to get myself back into the best shape I could dropping close to 9kg in body weight. Countless hours in the gym, miles on the treadmill, weekly squad training and monthly three hour session on the fields in Port Talbot, sore muscles, ice baths, recovery sessions and plenty of sacrifices. Every session had one purpose… to earn the right to pull on the Welsh Touch jersey again.
Then came the journey.
The trains through France, a day in Paris, taking in the Eiffel Tower before heading south to Vichy to march through the streets with hundreds of proud Welsh players and represent my country at the European Touch Championships.
And then the real work began.
Nine matches over four demanding days against some of Europe’s best teams. Every game asked a little bit more of us physically and mentally, but every single one of the boys kept turning up for each other.
We laughed together, recovered together, celebrated together and battled for every inch together.
To finish the tournament as European Bronze Medallists is something I’ll always be incredibly proud of.
But if I’m honest, the medal isn’t what I’ll remember most.
I’ll remember the dusty marquee laughs.
The fancy dress.
The recovery sessions.
The conversations over breakfast.
The friendships that were strengthened.
The privilege of standing shoulder to shoulder with an unbelievable group of men wearing the Welsh badge on our chests.
Representing Wales is never something I’ll take for granted. Even when you get older and your joints remind you every second of the battles you’ve been in.
At 48 years old, with a busy business, a young family and all the demands that life throws at you, this tournament proved to me that you’re never too old to chase something that matters.
A huge thank you to every teammate, coach, my beautiful family and friends who helped make this experience what it was.
What a journey.
