I won’t lie Sarah’s training for London was hard but she was committed and training couldn’t have been better. As well as cramp, which happened despite diligently preparing for that possibility, another factor we hadn’t considered was how the crowds and noise of a big city marathon would affect Sarah. Some people find the crowds inspiring, others, like Sarah, can find them mentally exhausting. If you’ve never experienced a big city marathon before then it’s difficult to prepare for. Anyway, I know Sarah will use the learning from this experience to prepare for her next adventure which is back on her favourite surface off road on the trails of the countryside. Roll on RTTS!

A fantastic run from Anthony at Newport Marathon putting all his hard work in training into practice!
If ever a personalised training plan produced together by a real human coach and the athlete needed an advert for why they are better than an app, AI or genetic off the internet plan then Anthony is it!
Anthony comes to me with his goals and the areas of his running that he wants to work on and from my analysis of his last training cycle and race ex*****on I bring my ideas to the table. We work together to produce a plan that is designed specifically for him to achieve his outcome, technical and race ex*****on goals. We don’t just talk once there’s dialogue throughout checking in, adapting and tweaking as we go. An app or AI can’t give you that level of support.
A great training cycle and race, well done Anthony! Rest up until the next challenge (you need to go even slower for this one 😂).

Sometimes we have a session on the plan and the mind is willing but the body is not! That was me today. Tempo intervals which I thought could have been a bit faster but the legs had other ideas. It happens so there’s no point beating yourself up about it and trying to achieve something that could lead to injury so I just ran at the pace my body was happy with today. The most important thing was the consistency of the pace of each interval what a lovely picture that is (the second one I mean 😆)

I’ve been doing some good training recently so as we had a flat parkrun planned I thought I’d have some fun and see if I could match or beat my Strava predicted 5k time. The strong headwind was tough but the tailwind in the other direction made up for it!
Easy week this week then it’s back to training.
How realistic are your Strava predicted race times? My advice don’t take them too seriously but they can give you something to aim for if you need a bit of motivation.

Can a plan be flexible? Yes of course and so it should be! Life happens and at the moment good weather is hard to come by! Hills weren’t planned for Monday but there was ‘some’ blue sky. Fair weather runner? Maybe I am but I did enjoy this session!

So now we move on to the Rob Burrows Leeds Marathon.
Another scorching day for a marathon!
This was Silke’s first time training and running a marathon so she was realistic with her goals - wanting to train so she avoided injury, be well prepared and enjoy it!
Silke has trained fairly consistently not always easy with a one year old and a new job! Along the way she set new pbs in 5k,10k and the half marathon so training was working! Having achieved her main goal of getting to the start line uninjured she could look at a finish time of potentially sub 4 hrs. Despite the hilly section and the heat Silke ran a marvellous 3:45hrs! Definitely more to come if there’s another marathon…
What a fantastic first marathon Silke your dedication and preparation paid off congratulations!
