CLUB STATEMENT

Glasgow Rugby League regretfully announce that the club will be withdrawing from the 2026 season.

The club explored every avenue to make this season work however with the loss of core members of the club for varying factors and low interest levels from the wider squad the club means it would not be viable to play this season.

The club's mission is to provide playing opportunities to the people of Glasgow so we will be looking at continuing in the 2027 season.

The club would like to put on record its thanks and gratitude to all players, coaches and sponsors who have helped make Glasgow Rugby League flourish in the past 8 years as we look towards our 10th anniversary in 2027.

Glasgow Rugby League are pleased to announce that David Stephenson will take over as head coach for the 2026 season.

David is an academy graduate from Salford Red Devils, playing age group and reserve grade alongside some of the game’s best players. He also played in League One with London Skolars. Alongside experience in the professional ranks, David also won two league titles with Northampton Demons in two years.

David’s experience and knowledge of the game at a high level will be fantastic for the club, and hopefully something which will push us forward in the future.

It is with great sadness and regret that we have to announce that we will not be able to fulfil our play-off fixture against Forth Valley Vikings on Saturday, effectively ending our season. This is due to injury problems and players being unavailable due to work commitments.

This year has been an incredibly difficult year for the club, as we have had to deal with the perfect storm of injuries, temporary lack of playing facilities along with fixture clashes with junior rep games and uncertainty with regards to coaching staff. We are proud of all the players who have and continue to stand by the club in spite of tough times.

Whilst we have had our troubles this year, we did show promise when we were at full strength, running Edinburgh close in one game and then getting a win against West End in the next. We also had 18 men make their debut for the club this season, meaning we truly are still growing the game in Glasgow.

The committee will now take the time over the winter break to assess the failings of this season, learn from them and push the club forward in the future. We wish Forth Valley the best in their next game, as well as Edinburgh and West End in their remaining games.
