Oscar kept us in the game and was an absolute rock, a goalkeeper is a position with a lot of pressure and very rarely gets the praise. Well done Oscar 🌟

Calne Town Sparrows vs Highworth ⚽️

Our first home game of the season.

Team talk at the end from Coach:
“Today we couldn’t criticise the boys for their work rate, it was brilliant and you all worked your bottoms off like never before.
But we need to work on our football brains, we need to talk to each other and communicate on the pitch. Remember our positions and where we need to be.
Passing to each other rather than trying to run the ball through 3 players on the opposition. We let 2 goals in from silly corners and then the boys lost their heads.
Things to work on next week we need to play the ball fast, pass rather than running through and work as a team.
Special mention goes out too Fred M who was absolutely fantastic, was always in the correct position and battling through. Also Caleb who played brilliantly trying to get the ball to where it needed to be and got us a goal.”

Our annual start of season picnic get together, time for the boys to have fun and play football against the parents!

Stratton Tournament 🏟️ ⚽️

What a morning for our Sparrows, all the emotions were felt.
Unbelievably proud of every single one of these boys, they all put in an amazing performance and over our 5 games we came top of the group out of 6!!
Such an achievement for these boys who don’t always seem to have luck go our way at tournaments.
We had 3 wins and 2 draws with some cracking goals from Frankie M, Freddie C and Fred M with some great assists too.
We then went through to the quarter finals where we unfortunately lost, they were all understandably gutted.
But we had to remind them all of far we’ve come, to come top of the group and be in for a chance at the cup is such an improvement. Something that the coaches and the boys should be really proud of. 👏
The boys were on fire this morning, there were so many highlights from all the boys. Jackson making some amazing saves especially in the last match, some great link ups and passing to each other to create amazing opportunities. Oscar so determined to get that goal was great to see.
Onwards and upwards to the next one ⚽️

Presentation night 🏆

Most improved player: Frankie S
Frankie joined us a couple of years ago. Showed all the heart required but needed a bit of time to join the match squad. Since then his confidence has grown weekly and is now a trusted member of the squad. Willing to get stuck in and work hard, great work Frankie. 👏

Clubman: Freddie C
Freddie sums up what the clubman award stands for. He plays with joy every week, has a positive attitude. He listens carefully and is immaculately behaved. Not to mention a pretty bloomin good player to back it up. Well done Freddie 👏

Player of the season: Freddie M
Freddie won most improved player in our u7 season. He has progressed every year.
This season he has shone as our most influential winger. Up and down the pitch constantly. With some great goals and is always willing to give 100%. Well done Freddie 👏

🏆 ⚽️ Presentation evening 🏆 ⚽️
What a season it’s been for our Under 10 Sparrows. Safe to say every single boy on the team has developed and grown this season and they always seem to take on any advice given to them.
All boys seem to have settled into their positions this season. But I think what always shines through is what a great team they are and the bonds on and off the pitch are a joy to see. Love our Sparrow football family.

Calne Town Tournament 🏟️

First tournament of the season for us and it was our home one. ⚽️
The boys had 1 draw, 1 loss and 1 win taking us through to the quarter final for the plate.
Which we drew and resulted in a penalty shoot out, the boys stepped up and we got through on penalties.
Unfortunately we lost 1-0 in the semi final in a very unfortunate loss.
What shone through today was what an amazing team we have, all the boys were so supportive of each other, during the tough penalties and when we got knocked out, lots of hugs needed.
Well done boys no matter what we’re always proud of you!!

Freddie kept us in the match today by scoring a rebound from a penalty and then getting another in the last few minutes of the game.
