Chelsea runs for MNDA

An offline donation pushed me over the ยฃ1500 mark today.

I can't tell you how much this means to me.

When I first started fundraising I said I would be happy if the amount I raised made this horrible MND journey easier for somebody.

My original target was ยฃ500 and we smashed that within days.

To reach triple that is beyond my wildest dreams, honestly. I know the difference this money can make to research and to information, support and financial help for families.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Halfway through and the training is getting hard!

Intervals yesterday (hate intervals), progression run tomorrow and an 90 minute long run Sunday - and only set to get longer from here ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Dreaming of the way I can walk down the stairs without pain ๐Ÿ˜…

I stopped updating here mid last year, and having raised over ยฃ1,000 for I thought I owe you all an apology!

Where have I been? Am I still running? Will I be doing the rescheduled Birmingham half in October?

Early last year I had an operation to treat my endometriosis, which enabled me to run and exercise without pain (yay!)

However, when trying to train I was continually struggling to get enough oxygen in - long story and many appointments later and it turns out I have a *something* growing in my left sinus. They think it's benign but it literally fills my left airway, so it's got to come out!

As it turns out, breathing is good when trying to learn to run ๐Ÿ™ˆ I still managed to do the virtual Birmingham 10k, but after that, I pretty much stopped. I've been walking and yogaing (?) as much as I can, but running has been basically impossible.

So... Tomorrow is the big day. Nose tumour is coming out! Wish me luck!

After this, I'm hoping to start with couch to 5k again in March and then continue fundraising and working up to the Birmingham half. The rescheduled date is October 10th, which is actually my dad's birthday, so maybe it's a sign after all!

Oh, and if anybody fancies laughing at a woman as high as a kite, I do plan to live insta story as much of the day as possible tomorrow. So feel free to join me, it might well be a laugh ๐Ÿ˜‚ my Instagram handle is also Chelsea runs for MNDA (I'm original like that!)

My first ever medal!

If you're new here - before about 6 months ago I had never ran. I mean, skived off pretty much every PE lesson levels of never ran.

So I am genuinely really chuffed to say that despite the Great Birmingham 10k being cancelled, I still managed to complete the distance and receive my medal!

To date, 32 of you have donated to help me raise ยฃ1,225 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, which is really what this is all about. And medals.

Every month we're going to post this info-graphic. It highlights some of the key facts about motor neurone disease that people may not know.

We need your help to raise awareness. Remember, June 21st is Global MND Awareness Day.

Together we can achieve our vision of a world free from MND.

10km - completed it mate โœ…

No idea how I did that (mostly by plenty of walking, supportive encouragement and a couple of minutes standing in front of someones garden sprinkler) but managed to complete the instead of the Great Birmingham 10k, which should have been today.

Emotional and proud to run in the Motor Neurone Disease Association top for the first time. My total is now an incredible and genuinely life changing ยฃ1,235 which is phenomenal.

Today is the day! Kind of...

Today should have been the day for my first race, 10km of non stop running of a brand-new course around Birmingham.

Instead, this first hurdle will be ran/walked from my front door tonight.

It's not going to be quite the achievement I was hoping for, no crowds, no reminiscing about the trips me and dad used to take to town - that will all have to wait until October, when hopefully the half marathon will go ahead ๐Ÿคž

I'm far from prepared, but at least I can wait until it gets a bit cooler to head out and try to reach what now feels like a crazy distance!

Wish me luck!

As always, any donations to the Motor Neurone Disease Association in dad's memory are really appreciated. I'd definitely have given up by now if it wasnt for everyone's support keeping me going.

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated - I've raised over ยฃ1,200 now and will be continuing to fundraise until the half marathon on October 11th.

And with a ยฃ10 donation from an anonymous donor, we've passed ยฃ1,200 total fundraised for the Motor Neurone Disease Association - 60% of my total goal. Thank you so much to each and every person who has supported me in any way.

The Motor Neurone Disease Association provide support to families affected by MND across the UK, as well as fund vital research and clinical trials to understand MND better and try to find effective treatments.

From my work in a neuro lab (ironically I worked across the hallway from my dad's professor and would cross over the the hospital next door to meet her for his appointments). I know how underfunded research into neurological conditions can be, especially those less well known, like MND. Raising awareness of this cruel disease is vital.

The total runs I completed in April vs every training run so far.

March and April were slow months for running - I've been trying to go easy on myself during the lockdown and not feel pressured into running now that my 10k is cancelled. But for the most part, I've enjoyed the runs I did do, although social distancing has been tricky since my entire estate seems to have picked up running too ๐Ÿ˜‚.

Now I'm getting back on track I've definitely felt the impact of not training regularly - I've lost a lot of fitness and I definitely didn't have any spare - but the only way is up!

In terms of future goals I'm still aiming for the October Birmingham Half marathon, even though the 10k in May isn't happening. I'll still be running a 10k this month (which will qualify me for the medal I would have achieved at the event), but without any pressure to run the whole thing.

If you haven't donated to the MNDA yet, more info about why I'm running is on my just giving page ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿงก
