🔴⚫ Burnham United Ladies – Match Report ⚫🔴

Minehead Ladies 2–0 Burnham United Ladies

Today, Burnham United Ladies travelled to Minehead for our first league game of the season, facing a huge challenge against last season’s Division 3 winners.

Minehead finished last season unbeaten, scoring an incredible 123 goals, so we knew before kick-off that we were in for an extremely difficult afternoon. But what we also knew was that our ladies would never give up without a fight — and that’s exactly what they showed today. ❤️🖤

From the very first whistle, every single player gave absolutely everything. The ladies worked tirelessly as a team, moving up and down the pitch and supporting each other for the full 90 minutes.

Alisha deserves a special mention for her incredible work rate on the right wing. She never stopped running, constantly pushing forward down the wing before working just as hard to get back and help out defensively. What a shift! 👏

In midfield, Casey and Charlie battled incredibly hard throughout the game. They worked tirelessly to close Minehead down, competed for every ball and never stopped battling for the full 90 minutes. They pushed forward when we needed them to and worked just as hard getting back to support the defence. 💪⚽

The ladies set up with three at the back, and our defenders worked relentlessly against a very strong Minehead attack. They defended bravely, stayed organised and put their bodies on the line to keep us in the game.

Minehead took the lead in the first half in what was a frustrating and questionable moment. The ball appeared to go out, with the referee initially giving a goal kick, before play was allowed to continue and Minehead went on to score.

The second half saw Burnham continue to battle, refusing to give up and continuing to work for each other. Minehead eventually doubled their lead with a fantastic strike into the bottom corner that gave the keeper very little chance.

Despite going two goals down, our ladies never stopped fighting. They battled right up until the final whistle and showed an incredible amount of determination, togetherness and heart.

The result may not have gone our way today, but there is so much to be proud of.

To travel to the home of last season’s unbeaten champions, a team that scored 123 goals, and put in the performance, effort and determination that these ladies did today says so much about this team.

Today was about more than the result. It was about showing character, working as a team and refusing to give up — and you did exactly that.

This is only the first league game of the season, and if today is anything to go by, there is plenty to be excited about.

Keep your heads up, ladies. Keep working, keep believing and keep fighting for each other.

The season has only just begun… and I cannot wait to see what we can achieve ⚽️

Its almost time for the first game of the season! The ladies travel to Minehead this Sunday for their first game in division 2.

All abilities welcome.
We train 6.30pm on Tuesday evenings at The Bayclub.
We play on Sunday afternoons September-May.

A goal keepers job often goes unnoticed but is one of the hardest jobs on the pitch.
Well done to the ladies who have played in goal this season. We come joint 1st for the most clean sheets across all 4 divisions.

What a season the ladies have had. Coming second in the league. 70 goals scored. Out of the top ten goal scorers in the league, Burnham have 4 players in the top 10.
Caitlin Stevens coming second with 21 goals in 12 games. Missing out on joint top by 1 goal.
Daisy Goldsmith coming 4th with 11 goals in 13 games.
Sarah Galley coming 5th with 10 goals in 14 games.
Vanessa Blake 7th with 9 goals in 11 games.
Also a shout out to Alisha Fowler who played 7 games and scored 5 goals. Only turned 16 in December!

Very proud of all of the ladies. Lucky to manage such a great bunch of woman!
