An awesome game today at Broadclose, with a well deserved win against Charlestown today. Proof that hard work, resilience, a positive attitude and a wonderful team ethic pays off when you stick at it. Bude were dominant from the start in all areas of the field, with excellent work in defense, midfield and attack. Bude held the majority of possession throughout, but a goal in the first half by Poppy really got the energy flowing, on and off the pitch with a very excitable Bude crowd!

Captain Elodie was dominant in defence, closing down any Charlestown chances alongside Isla, Bea and Dottie. Some cracking clearances up field by Dottie and Isla, who dealt well with the high ball. Evie had a quieter day in goal than we've been used to but made some crucial saves from close range, and wonderful upfield kicks to get us on the run. Isabelle, Willow, Ada and Amelia battled hard in the midfield with some impressive footwork to disarm the Charlestown players who showed some excellent skills, communication and team work.

Bodieve, Harper and Alma were exciting up front, working seamlessly together to menace the Charlestown defence. Many shots taken by us, kept the keeper busy, and with the law of averages in our favour, Alma was rewarded in the second half. Final score Bude 2 - Charlestown 0. Dottie was deservedly awarded player of the match by the away team. A beautiful game of football today in the Bude sunshine. Onto our next game away tomorrow at Wadebridge, KO 2.30. Let's go! 💙

Away to St Agnes Kestrels
Sunday 4th January 2026
Another bitterly cold match down at St Agnes!
We brought a small squad of 10 to this chilly afternoon game. So much credit to our families for always showing up and always putting in the miles! 🚗
A tough start to the New Year with a heavy loss on the road to St Agnes Kestrels, a real contender for winning the league this year. It’s not hard to see why this team is almost unbeaten with their competitive edge, polished passing, dominant tackling and persistent shots on target. That said, the fact that they came away with a clean sheet today does not reflect the grit, determination, super teamwork and heart that the Bude team showed.
The Kestrel’s lightning attacks, and the way they capitalised on every opportunity, proved to be a menace for the Bude defence and prompted some quick runs and relentless tackling. The St Agnes team, particularly the strikers, towered in stature over our players which sometimes gave them a big advantage in battles. That coupled with the fact that they had 5 subs to bring on regular fresh legs meant that the Bude team were at a big disadvantage.
The first half was a bit of a goal fest for St Agnes but there were some beautiful moments from Amelia, Elodie and Willow in the midfield, and stunning runs from Alma. A rather lucky penalty was given to St Agnes which cemented their dominance and spurred on their morale.
The second half started with real momentum from the Bude squad and it really felt that we were going to be rewarded. However, the game started as it finished and a stunning free kick from outside the box proved to be the final sucker punch from a painfully cold Bude team, but they gave it their all and we can’t ask for more than that.
The whole team make us proud, but some special mentions go to…
Elodie’s speed and determination was so key on many occasions from denying shots on goal. She was so energetic and decisive, running everywhere on the pitch, flying in from all over to defend and attack. Willow showed real strength and grit in midfield and did some lovely work up the line, in partnership with captain Amelia and Alma who was blistering up front. Jess and Ada showed real strength in her tackles and made some excellent clearances.
Throughout the match, Evie’s performance in goal prompted the regular praise from the St Agnes coaching team, as well as our own. She made countless saves from all angles and showed real bravery on so many occasions, running out from goal to defend and putting her body on the line. A well deserved player of the match chosen by both the home and the away teams.
Happy New Year from us all.

Bude U12 Girls 2 – Newquay 3

An absolute thriller of a game this morning which could have been anyone’s. Bude came out of the blocks fast and Alma immediately piled the pressure on Newquay’s defence. Elodie and Ada did some wonderful work on the right to bring the ball into the box. Newquay gave away a free kick and Elodie shot just wide.

After several minutes of Bude pressure, Newquay got the ball into the Bude box. Too many feet around the ball, from both teams, and we just couldn’t clear it. A Newquay foot came out on top and the ball somehow scrambled into the back of the net, against the run of play. This felt all too familiar.

Newquay had the wind in their sails and piled the pressure on Bude for the first time, and despite great defensive work from Poppy and Elodie, Newquay scored a second 4 minutes later. The Newquay striker (number 12) was rapid and regularly came from nowhere to charge into the box. Isla wasn’t deterred and stuck to her throughout the match, closing her down and lessening her options, alongside Ada later in the game. Isla and Amelia (stepping bravely out of position in goal again today) communicated well to ensure the ball was shielded and cleared from danger.

Elodie did some incredible work in midfield today and showed dogged determination to maintain possession and gain ground. She narrowly missed a goal which went over the bar after a corner. Newquay scored goal number 3 and no matter what we did, the ball just wouldn’t go in. Amelia did some amazing whole body saves, showing a real commitment to stop the gap from widening.
Both Newquay and Bude came out fighting after half time and both goalies were kept busy. Elodie had a shot saved but a minute later scored a stunning goal, so well deserved. Willow did some strong work in the midfield to get the ball upfield. The last 20 minutes was all Bude with multiple shots from close range. Bodieve, Harper, Elodie and Alma were menaces for the Newquay defence with rapid footwork, great passing and relentless shots. Bodieve did some insane runs and after 4 or 5 shots in the dying minutes, she was finally rewarded with a stunning goal. The Newquay goalkeeper did well to deny the onslaught.

Somehow this felt like more of win today. Chatting to a couple of the Newquay supporters afterwards, they heaped huge praise on the Bude team for their strength, ability, effort and possession.

Bodieve was chosen as our star player by the Newquay squad and Terry chose Elodie for her dominance in midfield. We chose the Newquay keeper who kept Newquay’s hopes alive on so many occasions.

A really exciting match to a team we’ve lost to by many many goals in the past. So much potential in this team!

Sunday 16th November
Pencoys 5 - Bude 1

Another long journey for Bude U12s on a Sunday morning, this time to Redruth to play Elevate Pencoys.

Today was during the FA silent support weekend which was respectfully followed by both the away and support fans, who clapped to show their praise and appreciation. This allowed the girls to play uninterrupted and gave a different perspective for all watching. The game had an all too familiar start, where Bude went 2 nil down in the first 10 minutes or so, then 3 nil about 25 minutes in. As always, positivity remained on the field and Bude dug deep, as we always do.
Some incredible passing, communication and teamwork in the midfield from Willow, Alma and Elodie gave opportunities to Bodieve who was blistering up front. She was finally rewarded with the ball in the back of the net after a solo run up the centre, surrounded by Pencoys defence.

After half time, Bude came out fighting. Birthday girl Amelia was dynamic up the wing and provided lots of chances.

The Pencoys team were very strong and physical, tackling hard and demanding the utmost respect. Our girls stepped up, particularly Elodie and Bea who showed huge determination, skill and tackling dominance.

Soon into the second half Elodie had a stunning shot on goal, which was somehow denied by an epic save from the Pencoys goalie. Amelia followed with 2 stunning shots which again were denied. Despite what the scoreline would suggest, Bude definitely seemed dominant at this phase of the game and it seemed that goals were inevitable. The Pencoys attack were relentless. They took advantage of any gaps or lapses in play and capitalised with sharp shooting and precision finishing. Evie pulled off some incredible saves and Jess provided some heroic clearances also.

Amelia was brought down hard and given a free kick at a wide angle, quite far out. Her kick was powerful and perfect, but again somehow saved.

In the blink of an eye, Pencoys scored two goals in quick succession near the end of the match. A loss of 5 - 1 again did not seem to reflect the grit, possession, passion and heart of the Bude team.

If we can play this well in defeat, keep our heads up against such strong opposition and show such teamwork - this will come into fruition soon. We are building strong foundations. We go on. Bude forever!

PS Huge thanks to the loyal Bude U12s parents who must be clocking up some of the hugest mileage in the Cornwall League. We appreciate your support.

Charlestown U12s 3 - 2 Bude U12s
Sunday 26th October

An away game today down to Charlestown, a few squad members down including our goalkeeper but wow, did this game deliver in anticipation, passion and sideline excitement?! This match was a showcase for all Bude players, who will all get a mention for their effort, resilience and teamwork today which led to a heroic ‘almost’ comeback.
From the off the Charlestown attack made their presence known but this was dealt with calmly and efficiently by captain Isla who was dogged in defence throughout, matching the determination and pace of the home team’s attack. Amelia bravely volunteered to be in goal and commanded her box with confidence and flair, unintimidated to throw her body wherever it was needed to stop the ball hitting the net.

Around 10 minutes in, Charlestown saw their chance, intercepted a goal kick and scored a opportunistic goal, 1-0 up after an exciting period of Bude play. Bude fought straight back, with some exciting bursts of energy up front with Alma and Harper working as an awesome duo, putting the pressure on the abundant Charlestown defence. Their goalie saved a beautiful shot on target from Harper, but the momentum shifted again and Charlestown upped their pressure on the counter attack. Handy decisive clearances by Willow kept the ball safe but the attack were relentless, forcing Amelia to do a crucial double save, first standing, second from the floor. The next 5 minutes showed a short period of dominance by Charlestown which then gifted them with 2 more goals, the latter a stunning solo run and chip. This was all feeling a little too familiar from our previous games this season but this did not deter the Bude girls who played their hearts out for the following three quarters of the match.

Harper sent another shot wide and you just felt there was a shift in belief and tempo up front. We weren’t ready to give up on this match yet – we didn’t deserve to be 3 nil down at this point. Jess did some heroic work in defence to disarm the Charlestown players and send the ball back upfield or out of play.

After a rousing team talk, full of self-belief, Bude started the second half with fire in their bellies. Mya, Bea, Ada and Mia did a succession of super tackles, showing strength and determination unflustered by the Charlestown footwork. Isla took the ball upfield to Isabelle who had a lovely shot on target, denied by the keeper. This was a game where even our most polite players found their strength and determination not to be a push over and held their ground, while maintaining our trademark fair playing style. Alma sent a shot just wide and then soon after got the ball in the back of the net, 3-1. In 4 minutes, Bude had 5 or 6 shots on target or just wide, but then came Alma’s second goal, 3-2. The crowd went wild! This felt like it was going to be our game, the momentum was definitely in our favour.

Dottie bravely stepped up to be in goal, which allowed Amelia the freedom to showcase her footwork as she traversed her way around the opposition up the wing. Dottie’s huge goal kicks gave Bude a big advantage and fed the ball up front.

Bude kept the lion’s share of the possession in the closing quarter of the game and were unlucky not to equalise, a draw would have been a fitting and well-deserved end.

Another loss maybe, but the smiles were wide on and off the pitch during and after the game. Somehow it felt more like a win. That was a game that could have been anyone’s and somehow felt like it should have been ours. Our hearts were full after that performance, where the final 45 minutes of the game we didn’t concede a goal and we scored two and all players stepped up – one and all.

It's not been the start to the season any of us have wanted on the sidelines, but, we couldn't support a team that we could be any more proud of.

Bude U12 girls 2 - Wadebridge 3

Bude came out of the blocks with renewed energy and self-belief today after a tough start to the season. Arguably you could say they had the most possession and spent most of the time in the Wadebridge half for a lot of the game but credit to Wadebridge, their counter attacks were blistering.

Bude's passing game today was excellent, with great cohesion between Elodie, Alma, Amelia and Bodieve who pestered the Wadebridge defence. Bea, Isla and Poppy did some exceptional defending to keep the ball upfield. Harper came on half way through the first half bringing with her pace and blistering runs into the box. She soon gave Bude a 1-0 lead, which had been so well deserved.

Our lead was only momentary, Wadebridge's response was instant, with a rapid counter attack and goal, 1-1. This was clean, end to end football at its best.

Mia did some excellent work midfield and crossed the ball across to Harper who passed it to Elodie, who scored a belter of a chip into the back of the net. The keeper had no chance. 2-1 ahead.

Once again, Wadebridge came straight back with an incredible strike from Alana. Bodieve ran back to defend another attack so we went into half time 2-2.

Some super clearances from the defenders, including Jess but Wadebridge ended up winning 2-3.

So many positives to take from this game today. The team battled hard, showed resilience, self-belief and unshakeable teamwork.

Big thanks to our team sponsors

October 5th
Truro 6- Bude U12s 0

Another long trip away, this time to Truro. Tough one to write about today with another scoreline that doesn't provide a true reflection of Bude's performance.

Truro started strong with real attacking flair in the first quarter which kept the Bude defence under significant pressure. Poppy once again provided some crucial work in their danger area, clearing the ball up field. Bude kept their shape and their heart but couldn't hold back the torrent of early shots. 3 nil down in the first quarter.

Bude played the next 45 minutes or so without conceding another goal which is testament to the teamwork and amazing one to one battles on the field. Truro knew their strength and pushed hard in tackles, but Bude didn't let up. Elodie, Alma and Harper did some amazing runs dodging their physical defence but the ball just stayed out of the net. This is football and Bude kept their class when decisions didn't go their way.

The final 5 or more minutes provided another flurry of 3 Truro goals, which came as a sucker blow.

Amelia, out of position in goal, did some stellar saves and huge goal kicks to keep Bude in the game for most of the match. Unsurprisingly, this incredible performance earned her player of the match from her team.

Sunday 28th September

Bude Town U12s 1 – 7 St Agnes Kestrels

A tough result at home today which didn’t reflect what we know our girls are capable of. St Agnes flew out of the blocks, as we knew they would, and immediately put the pressure on Bude. The St Agnes attack seemed relentless and our defence were kept busy for a lot of the game, not to mention our goalie Evie who saved many many more than went in, including an early free kick on target.

Poppy and Elodie were relentless in their closing down of the opposition, denying them on many occasions and forcing so many balls out of play or booting them far up field.

In the second quarter, St Agnes once again meant business and immediately had a shot on goal which was saved by Evie. A St Agnes tap in, which had seemed inevitable for some time, gave them a 0-1 lead. Bodieve replied with a beautiful cross which was caught by the keeper. St Agnes came back with rapid attack, but Elodie tracked hard and gave the striker no room to respond. The shots kept coming, thick and fast, denied by the woodwork and then 0-2. A super save from Evie over the cross bar and some blocking by Mia, but a third soon followed. 0-3 half way through.

At the start of the third quarter, Isla made some crucial tackles in the danger area and Willow made a beautiful clearance up field. Ada kept hopes alive of a response with some nifty footwork up the line. Isla did one of her trademark throw ins to the feet of Phoebe who crossed the ball beautifully to Isabelle who confidently chipped the ball into the back of the net. For a moment, the home crowd erupted, maybe there was a change of belief, a change of pace from Bude. Alas, 2 more St Agnes goals followed and we went into the final quarter 1-5 down.

A rare Bude corner was defended well and soon after Elodie had a wonderful shot which just went wide. A sixth followed and then the final kick of them game gave St Agnes their 7th.

St Agnes were polished, disciplined and calm in their approach today. We look forward to the return match, where we hope to show them more of what we are about. Not our day today but that’s football.

Thanks so much for all the sideline support today, particularly from the rest of our squad who turned up to cheer the girls on. That is why Bude are special – we have a huge squad with a big heart. Sometimes you get the reward, sometimes you don’t. Not the result we wanted, but will give us the motivation to come back stronger. We move on.

Friendly 25th September 2025
Bideford/Appledore Blues U13s vs Bude U12s

A beautiful evening for an away friendly with Bideford/Appledore Blues this evening as the sun set on North Devon. An even match from start to finish with both teams showing greatness across the pitch, efficient defence work and super counter attacks, which made for an exciting watch from the sidelines. This was also a masterclass of how football should be played – good sportsmanship, fair tackles and competition mixed with laughter.
Bude were put under some early pressure by the Blues but Bude’s defence withstood the test, Poppy making some excellent tackles and clearances which soared up the field. Harper and Alma made for a great partnership up front, with several shots on target which were denied by a confident Blues keeper. Mya stayed strong in her outfield position and jostled well for space, doing some super tackles. After a period of great play, Bude went 1 nil up with a lovely goal from Alma at the end of the 1st quarter.

Amelia demonstrated some fancy footwork in order to maintain possession up the wing to then take an ambitious, yet accurate, shot from outside the area which was saved by the keeper. Bude built up the tempo and demonstrated some exceptional communication and passing under pressure between Alma, Willow and Amelia. However, the Blues came back strong with some great attacking play which forced some decisive action from Bea and Elodie to close the opposition down in the danger area.

The Blues scored a great goal and minutes later followed with a second, though this was disallowed for offside. The wind came out of Bude’s sails for a moment, but then they came back strong and the game could have been anyone’s. Isabelle did some wonderful work and nifty turns up the wing to put the Blues in defensive mode. Each and every member of our team stepped up and showed such great teamwork and positive belief. A 1-1 draw seemed a fitting end for this match.

After the game, the teams decided to have a fun penalty shoot out. This was a display of exemplary saves and bravery from both goalkeepers, who had kept both teams in the game by keeping the ball out of the net on several occasions. So lovely to hear such comradery and good humoured celebration between both teams.

We wish the Blues the best in their coming season and look forward to playing them again soon, hopefully in the not too distant future.

Match Report - 21st September 2025
St Agnes Bolsters 3 – Bude U12 Girls 1

An early drive down to St Agnes in some very welcome sunshine for our first league game of the season. The game started with an explosive St Agnes Bolsters team on the attack, showing some early dominance that was defended really well. Some key saves by Evie and goal line clearances by captain Isla kept Bude in the game. After a period of pressure, Bude built up pace and then a rapid Alma kicked a shot that went just wide. On the counter attack Evie made another tremendous save from a close range shot.

In the second third, Bea came out ready for business and matched the physicality of the Bolsters, showing some solid work in defence and determined tackling. Just before the half time swapping of ends, St Agnes capitalised on their performance with a well deserved goal. Bude were undeterred and Isabelle did some great work up all the way up the wing, but still no goal yet.

The last third proved to be the most exciting (and nerve-wracking) with Bude gaining momentum in attack, with some great passing, communication and footwork which pestered the Bolsters defence. The Bolsters were hungry for another goal but the busy Bude defence kept their cool and protected the danger area, with some great clearances up field from Jess and Willow. After a second Bolsters goal, Bodieve scored a wonderful goal after a great run and showed we were still in the game. Elodie did a great shot on goal which was saved well by their keeper.

The final score of 3 – 1 was a disappointing result after an excellent team performance against a physical and confident St Agnes team. With lots of promise for this season, we march onto next weekend and look forward to the re-match in the cup later in the Autumn.

Players of the match – Bea (chosen by our team) and Bodieve (chosen by St Agnes)
