This signifies the end of the Apex Sports page. It's been emotional!
The Runners' Retreat page will cover both Marlow and Farnham Common stores.
Looking forward to welcoming previous Apex Sports customers into the new-look shop.

The sign is up! The Farnham Common Shop has a lot of history. After nearly 32 years as Apex Sports (17 of them across the road), going forward it's going to be a Runners' Retreat. We will be closing the Shop from Mon 8th - Fri 12th November to have a proper refit. We now have a good selection of shoes, some great new winter kit in store and also lots of previous years clothing at half price. More updates in a couple of weeks!

In case you were wondering, here is the official pronunciation of running shoe brand Saucony. They used to put this on their shoe boxes. And no, they're not French!
Been around longer than Nike as we tell the kids!

Bit of nostalgia today! Great to see former Apex Sports owner Mike who popped in. He enjoyed his Iceland multi-day ultra immensely and is grateful to not be standing all day working to rest his feet and toes!

A little story about the passing of my running hero.
My Godfather Colin passed away in South Africa last week after a long illness in his 80s. He lived in Durban and had vowed to one day run the Comrades. My parents and his friends guffawed at this because he was overweight, smoked and unfit.
In the 90s he defied expectations and trained and ran his first Comrades. He was the most unlikeliest person to run one, let alone completing 5, DNF-ing 3.
My family moved to Cape Town and we'd then support him running his 8 Two Oceans Ultras. I could remember him when I was a child, drinking and smoking with my parents, not interested in anything physical. To see him complete these races filled me with heartfelt admiration and respect. All the family and friends couldn't believe what he was doing! So when I was old enough, I ran my first Two Oceans aged 21 in the 90s and not looked back since. As it happened we hooked up in the last few hundred meters of the race. One of my best running memories to date.
His inspiration flows through me with my oxygenated blood every time I run. I shall miss updating him about my running, but he'll be with me for every running step I take.
Running improved his life ten fold, as it does for many other runners out there. Colin outlived the early predictors he wouldn't live this long because of illness and I'm sure his running helped him in this regard.
Cheers Colin, you inspired one little boy!

Former owner and recently retired Apex Sports owner Mike currently in Iceland, taking part in the Fire & Ice multi-day ultra. Looks like he's having too much fun being retired!!

If you're not running the London Marathon and fancy running a race on the day, join us for a local-ish 10k or 10m. Beautiful routes round Marlow, celebrating 10 years of Runners' Retreat which we will be a part of. We'll be running!

Matt's on holiday but is still in hard training for the Marlow 10. If you're not doing London, then why not come and join us for our 10 year anniversary. Sunday 3rd October.
