Ah, September, you're almost here. It's like a fresh start - a second new year, but a better one. Instead of January gloom and Christmas excess, we're buoyed by that feel-good, golden glow of summer. So, let's get back into a rhythm, prioritise exercise and wellbeing, and head into autumn feeling fantastic.

The new timetable at be:well studio starts Tuesday 1st September. Beginners are welcome to all classes, but if you'd like a really thorough grounding in all the basics of Pilates, we have a beginners' course commencing Friday 18th September, 12-1pm.

Research has shown that participating in 1–2 Pilates sessions per week can be one of the most effective exercise approaches for improving pain and disability in people with chronic non-specific low back pain.

That doesn't mean Pilates is the only effective option.

Strength training, walking and other forms of exercise can also help.

But it does highlight that well-taught Pilates is a legitimate, evidence-based intervention for back pain.

As Pilates teachers, you're not "just" teaching movement.

You're helping people become stronger, more confident and more comfortable in their own bodies.

Movement is medicine

Immi will be holding the fort - her Thursday evening yoga class will continue through August.

I'll also be offering a yin yoga session, 6.30-8pm, Tues 25 August, and Pilates, 6.15pm, Weds 26 August.

I don't usually pick flowers from my garden - they usually last better on the plant. But rain was forecast, so I cut some peonies. They were at the height of their beauty and the thought of finding them rain-trampled was too sad.

It rained and it rained. The plants rejoiced, but a few flowers suffered. These beauties, however, are proudly perched in a slightly too small vase, drawing my gaze every time I enter the room. Now I think that I will always cut some peonies to bring into the house. There must be a lesson in that.
