AIRBUS BUCCANEERS WIN ENGLISH NATIONAL CUP REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS FINAL

Yesterday saw a very close and highly competitive game between Airbus Buccaneers 50’s v Neston Nomads 50’s in the Regional Final of The English Walking Football National Cup.
The competition is the World’s oldest, largest & most prestigious Walking Football Tournament.
Played in a fantastic manner by both teams & a great advert for what Walking Football should represent on all levels.
The first half was highly competitive & saw periods of pressure from both teams with Neston scoring the only goal of the period, Half time Airbus 0 - Neston 1
The second half continued in a similar manner with both teams hitting the woodwork & narrowly missing chances to score.
Neston were then awarded a penalty, for a player straying into his own area, that was missed.
With 5 minutes to go Airbus threw caution to the wind, started to push & put together some great passages of play. This resulted in a great equalising goal from James Edwards.
A frantic few minutes followed with end to end football & chances for both teams to win.
The half ended 1-1 and so to the dreaded penalty shoot-out.

So Airbus Buccaneers become Regional Champions & go on to represent North West South in the National Finals in Nottingham over the first weekend in September.
A fantastic result for Airbus in their first season of competitive league & cup football.

Airbus Buccaneers had 5 players representing the Welsh Dragons at international level this weekend.
In the over 70’s we had Graham Roberts, John Pritchard & Mick Jones.
In the over 60’s we had Rich Sim & Mel Barnes.
A massive congratulations on your selections.
Our club goes & grows from strength to strength & we are all tremendously proud of you.
Our over 50’s squad have also reached the Regional Final of the English National Cup.
Win that & it’s off to Nottingham in September for the National Finals weekend.
An amazing first season for our teams & players at Airbus Buccaneers.! ✈️🏴‍☠️😎

Last weekend Airbus Buccaneers 60’s player & Captain gained his first Welsh 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Cap for ‘The Welsh Dragons’ at an international competition in Birmingham.
Mel Barnes (now known as Melsh 🤭) also Captained the Welsh Team on his first Cap.
Mel has always been a keen footballer, but only started playing Walking Football @ Airbus last year.
He was instantly hooked on the game, rarely misses sessions & is a tremendously popular member of the club.
What a journey for him!

Airbus 50’s played their 3rd round National Cup game this morning, away to Nantwich.
The first half was a tight affair, with Airbus narrowly being the better side in possession & chances created.
The half ended 0-0
The second half started in a similar manner. Airbus grew in confidence & then scored their first goal (Pete Grimes)
Nantwich then had to chase the game & Airbus soaked up some initial pressure & then totally dominated the last quarter.
Goals followed from (Player Manager) Gregg Ward & then Graham Hounslow (on his debut for Airbus)
So, a great performance all around, a 3-0 win & on to the 4th round of the National Cup.
Brilliant stuff fellas..! ✈️🏴‍☠️

50’s squad @ management team for today’s home game against Formby in National Cup.

An edgy & nervous cup game today at our Hollingsworth Stadium, in glorious sunshine.
Perfect conditions.
Both teams had chances in 1st half, with keepers pulling off great saves at both ends.
Half time was 0-0
2nd half continued in a similar manner, with Airbus having better possession & more chances. Again, some fantastic saves from Formby keeper.
Formby took the lead with a penalty.
Airbus then in last 10 mins equalised with a penalty.
Penalty burried by James.
Game finished 1-1
So to a penalty shoot out.

With Gregg scoring his penalty & it being 1-1 after 3 rounds & Killer saving one tipping it on, off bar & off line..! 😮‍💨 we went to sudden death.
Fluffy stepped up & in a cool & assertive manner, placed his penalty with power & style.
Formby stepped up & blazed wide.
AIRBUS win 2-1 in penalty shoot out.
Onto round 3 of the National Cup.
Well done guys, fantastic performance & hard won victory.!

A fantastic day out for Airbus Buccaneers on Sunday at The Newtown Cup.
Both squads played really well in hot & draining competition conditions.
The 50’s squad played some fantastic football & won their league & competition. 👍
The 65’s squad also did great things & finished runners up in their competition. 👍
