We believe that a learning disability should not be a barrier to personal and artistic success. Founded in 1985 by Artistic Director Avril Hitman, Magpie Dance has grown for 30 years from a single inclusive dance session to an acclaimed organisation at the forefront of dance for people with learning disabilities delivering high quality dance experiences both nationally and internationally. Magpie
runs a weekly programme comprising 1 adult, 3 youth and 2 community classes. Our dedicated Magpie dancers have performed from Sadler’s Wells, The Southbank Centre, Laban, The Albany, Trafalgar Square and the Royal Albert Hall to local churches and the streets of Brighton and Bromley. In addition, Magpie runs youth group holiday sessions, a choreographic mentoring programme, bespoke stand-alone workshops/projects, an Inclusive Dance Practice Training Scheme and professional development workshops for teachers and performing artists.
