This is not aiming to be a ‘flashy or cool’ post - I just wanted to share my pride from todays class with my 121 client (who is 65 but that’s irrelevant really !).
I also wanted to share my thought process when coaching him today … I planned rotating ape and jumping underswitch shift ( yes I like a challenge 👍).
When we starting looking at it,it proved tricky and I had to be creative in some of the coaching points and the language to use. I must admit that at one stage I had the thought ‘mmm maybe we should leave it this week 🤔’
BUT we persevered and we tried different cues and experiments until it ‘clicked’.
What did this session remind me?
1. Everyone learns in very different ways so you have to be very aware and adaptive to individuals.
2. Everyone’s bodies are different and we have to ensure we get a balance between reaching a clients best potential without making them feel ‘inadequate’ from not reaching a particular angle.
3. Absolutely teach the correct technique and then adapt and progress once someone starts to feel confident and comfortable.
4. The majority of the session is about learning and technique and feedback and the final part of the session is just about confidence ,fun, celebrating achievement and just ‘going with the flow’
5. When you look back at the video and spot improvements to technique … you think ‘ there’s always next time ‘ 😊
6. I learn as much from my 121 clients each session as they learn from me.
This was his first attempts at the moves and I was so chuffed ! I even popped in a sneaky jumping underswitch shift to Side Kick through before he knew what was happening 🤣😂🤣
