David came to me back in 2021 having previously struggled with staying consistent to a gym routine with work and family commitments always taking over.

We focused on 3 key areas to prevent this from happening.

1. We trained early in the mornings. Before anything else could get in the way.

2. Made the most of our sessions. Whether it was 30 mins or an hour, we didn’t waste any time waiting for equipment by creating a programme that was compound movement focused; so he got the most bang for his buck. Which also got him results quicker! 😎

3. We added performance related goals alongside his physique goals to keep his training interesting and motivation high; as every session had a clear purpose & target outcome.

Motivation is a useful ingredient when it's with you but it won't always be there and you definitely can't rely on it to show up when you need it to.

The key not only to getting started but also getting results is to figure how you can show up when you need to.

Consistently.

Regardless of feeling motivated.

99 times out of 100 the after feeling of showing up and doing the work outweighs any positive feeling that motivation can give you.

Aim for the feeling of satisfaction rather than the feeling of being motivated.

If you’re “starting on Monday” with a goal of being good with your nutrition and training (like I am) don’t over complicate it.

Losing a few kilos and feeling better is so so simple.

These are the steps I’ll be following over the next 4/5 weeks…

1. Choose a calorie deficit. “Choose a what in the what now?” Your body needs set amount of calories to function. Eat more than it needs, you’ll gain weight. Eat less than it needs, you’ll lose weight. Calorie Deficit. A deficit of calories. I can help you with this more if you need.

2. Get off your seat. No seriously. Moving more contributes to that calorie deficit. Your 30 minute HIIT class isn’t enough. 30 minutes is less than 1% of your entire day. Move as much as you can in the other 99% if you actually want to see results.

3. Ditch your YouTube nonsense. No one you follow on Instagram got in shape following along to a YouTube workout. Get a program that is made for you, your current training level, confidence and ability. This will change your whole approach to fitness.

4. Understanding a calorie deficit is easy. Staying in it is hard. Not 278 x 374 hard but hard enough that this is where you’re most likely to struggle. Again. I can help you with this.

5. Your YouTube workouts are sh*te because there’s no progressive challenge to the workouts. How do you know if you’re getting better? And don’t say you sweat less than you did before.

6. All the above is great but consider them the ingredients and sleep is the time it needs to cook in the oven.

The last thing you need to do, is stick with it.

It doesn’t happen overnight and you won’t always lose weight each week.

Swapping meal deals for miles.

Lunchtime used to be deciding between a meat feast sub or tuna & sweetcorn sandwich meal deal from Sainsbury’s. (With a extra Wispa to eat on the way back to the office. 🤫)

Enjoyed reflecting how much going self-employed and no longer having to share my spreadsheets makes me happy.

Oh and riding my bike in the middle of the day because I can. 🤙🏼
