BRISTOL TALK & TRAILS September Review

Last Tuesday saw us roll over into September and on the evening of the 1st we again got together for the Bristol TALK & TRAILS, organised in collaboration with Talk Club and . An 18+ men’s group ride with a little more focus on mental health.

14 men ‘checked in’ up with 7 new faces and 7 re-attendants. Following a short introduction to Talk Club we checked in using Talk Club’s ‘How are you? Out of 10? Check-in numbers were a little lower this time around, there were some reflective thoughts but it was welcomed with respectful support between the group.

Following the feedback from Ride #3 we headed out on a planned route that would loop away from the city along the Pill path before making its way back in through the trails and surround woodlands. Riders naturally found common ground and mixed between conversations, the atmosphere was relaxed and positive unaffected by the fading light.

We didn’t quite get a sunset but the warm evening and the glow of our lights through the tree’s saw us return to the city. Pausing for a trailside ‘check-out’, reflection seemed to be a common theme on this ride, some noting it was positively emotional.

We collectively rolled over the suspension bridge into Clifton and headed for refreshments, there were more chats, reflections of the ride and TALK & TRAILS itself…

… and at this point I would like to say that I am so pleased it has been welcomed so positively within the community and that the men that have attended so far have seen the benefit.

-—

With a turn up and ride (no sign-up) approach the aim is to reduce barriers and ease men into speaking about their mental health in an already familiar environment.

Attendees have shared their positive feelings for TALK & TRAILS, how there is a need and a space for it and how accessible it is and for that we are very pleased.
We are constantly trying to better this experience and welcome any thoughts and feedback.

In the meantime, if you feel like visiting a Talk Club would be beneficial to you, please check the Talk Club website to find your nearest location.
