Choosing a Pilates teacher training? Start here.

There are so many Pilates teacher training courses out there. Different lengths, different locations, different approaches, different price points. So how do you know which one is right for you?

Nic, founder of Soul Pilates Education, has a few things she recommends thinking about before you commit.

✨ Find out who trained the teachers you admire. Do you like their style of Pilates? Does it align with the kind of teacher you want to become?

✨ Speak to the educators. A good conversation can tell you a lot about the course and whether its approach is right for you.

✨ Think about what you actually want from your training. Are you looking to teach a few classes alongside your existing career? Or do you want to develop a deeper understanding of Pilates and build a career around it?

A shorter course might be right for someone looking to dip their toe into teaching.

If you want to understand the Pilates system in depth — how to programme, how to cue, how to work with different bodies and how to teach with confidence — you'll need the time and space to go deeper.

There isn't one right route into Pilates teaching. But there is a right route for the teacher you want to become.

So take your time, ask questions and make sure the course you choose will actually prepare you for where you want to go.

What people misunderstand about Roll Up 👀

The Roll Up is often seen as a test of abdominal strength, but there's another piece of the puzzle that's easy to overlook: spinal mobility.

The movement asks you to articulate through your spine, gradually rolling down one vertebra at a time, then reversing that movement to come back up.

So rather than trying to power your way through it, think about:

✨ Rolling through your spine sequentially

✨ Moving with control rather than momentum

✨ Creating space through each part of your spine

✨ Keeping the movement slow enough to feel what's happening

Building spinal mobility and learning how to articulate through your spine can make a huge difference to your Roll Up, and to how you move more generally.
